Today we’d like to introduce you to Inida (Ini) Spahiu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Inida. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Back home (Albania), my parents always said; “You should go to medical school”. It is not that I did not like that idea but being good in chemistry was not enough. I also liked to be a hairdresser but I did not even dared to bring that idea up to my parents ;-). After high school, I was sent to business school in Germany where I lived and worked for 13 years. Meeting my husband in one of my vacation trips to US is where my new journey begins. I loved my life in Europe and still moving to US was not the mos difficult decision I had to make.
Changing my carrier and starting from scratch was a hard one. I am creative, love to meet new people, listen, talk and be around them. I love to move around and have a lot of energy. So, I decided to do something that I’ll enjoy and going to work would not feel like a chore. I went to cosmetology school in 2010. I got my licence and join the apprentice program at Salon Mario Russo in 2011. I was trained for cuts and styling and later on, I specialized as a colorist. Being surrounded from so many talents that have been in the industry for over 20 years, I consider myself lucky to be still part of Mario Russo team.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am telling you: ” It was not easy, nothing is easy”. When you get out of school, you just want to do hair and you think you know everything but you DON’T. It takes years. Learning from criticism was the hardest part ;-(. I had to be patient and trust the process. They have a great apprentice program and they give you the tools to be successful but you have to learn how to use them. You have to be self driven, motivated and willing to learn.
Ini at Salon Mario Russo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What the client can’t buy today is TIME. So, I create beautiful, low maintenance hair colors that suits their busy lifestyle. Balayage is what I practice the most but I utilize different techniques to achieve the desired look. I love a challenge so Color Correction is what I get more exited about which is often showcased in my IG. In addition to the hair coloring service, I also have a great relationship with my clients! 😉
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments come from color corrections. It is a special feeling when you see someones face light up in the mirror after my work is done.
