Meet Holly Lambert of Harmony Preschool in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Lambert.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Inspired by my five children; I began Harmony in 2003. Becoming a preschool teacher is a career change for me; but a natural progression, as I loved being home to raise my own young family. Before moving to Hanover in 1993 and becoming a full time mom: I was an accountant and evening law school student. As my family grew, I decided to combine my organizational skills and love of children to achieve my teacher’s certificate, and ultimately my directorship. I consider myself a “life learner” and very much enjoy the challenge of developing and delivering an outstanding early learning experience. My job is so much fun!!! I look forward to going to play every day!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The preschool grew faster than I could keep up with it. Over time, I have gotten my hands around the program and defined its limits in order to maintain my work/family balance.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
All children command the love and respect of their parents, teachers, and community. Young children are inherently egocentric and scientific; and deserving of quality life experiences that will enable them to safely self-discover and explore their giant, complicated world. Harmony’s “constructivist” child development perspective is best likened to the process of building a skyscraper. Every intricate building begins with a strong, secure foundation; then is constructed within a safe environment, protected by a strong support system called scaffolding. When the construction process is complete, the scaffolding is peeled away; revealing a freestanding skyscraper. Harmony supports a positive child guidance process whereby very young children are given all the command the love and respect of their parents, teachers, and community. Harmony supports a positive child guidance process whereby very young children are given the opportunity to develop a strong foundation or support system by parents, teachers, and community; who then work together creating the scaffolding or safe nurturing environment within which a child can safely grow into a self-contained, independent adult.

Harmony specializes in making early academics fun, musical, and whimsical, by infusing movement and whole body sensory experiences throughout our school day. Harmony is known for preparing our students to be life learners, ready for kindergarten, and principled young people; I am most proud of teaching our children to choose to be kind, safe, respectful, a first time listener, and an optimist.

Harmony is set apart from other early learning experiences because we nurture our children to be intrinsically motivated to make good choices for themselves and their peers. It is very satisfying to see our older “pre-kers” take on the role of “teacher” for our younger preschoolers throughout the day, weather it is showing them where their snack bag goes, zipping their coat, or teaching them the words to one of our songs.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very curious little girl, who LOVED animals, and spent every waking moment outside! I started several little businesses, from washing cars to mowing lawns and liked to be very busy. I loved being on any type of sports team, and enjoyed the athleticism and comradery of being a small part of a bigger whole. I had a big personality, and liked to have FUN!
