Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Quigley.
Heidi joined Northwestern Mutual, a Fortune 100 financial planning company, in 2013. She was joining a very much male-dominated industry but had a passion for paving the way. Heidi was the only female financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual-Downtown up until 2017. Heidi’s vision has always been to recruit other women to this limitless career, which has led her to become the first female advisor at Northwestern Mutual—Boston to not only become a Field Director but to lead a team of women advisors.
Since Heidi began her role in leadership, the firm has taken on 5 other female financial advisors. Heidi’s passion is coaching other advisors and clients to their goals—personally, professionally & financially. Her values are Commitment, Empowerment, and Authenticity, and she is focused on demonstrating these on a daily basis. Her hope is that the first meeting with Heidi is reflected on in later years as the catalyst of change for how people of all ages & backgrounds view their financial goals.
Heidi grew up in Groveland, MA and graduated with a degree in Marketing & Communications. She credits her family in teaching her strong work ethic and willingness to lead with your heart and the rest will follow. This led to her confidence and success as a young entrepreneur. She is a self-admitted “foodie” but also maintains a very strong background in fitness. She trains to compete in fitness competitions & takes her diet very seriously. In her free time, Heidi and her dog, Cooper take trips to the beach.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. The role I am in is very much like planting tomatoes. Growing season is incredibly long, so until you “water & weed”, the tomato plants will take time. I have been building my clientele over the last four years+ and I am seeing it all come to fruition. As with anything, family and friends did not understand what I was working so hard to build as they did not see immediate gratification or recognize the development behind the scenes.
I almost quit working as an advisor multiple times, but I had amazing coaches and mentors that believed in me more than I did myself sometimes. There are other personal struggles that I had to handle while managing my business, but I always told myself that the business did not care if I was busy with family issues, burdens of outside events, or relationship problems. I persevered and I believe that it made me a stronger person and helped shaped me to be better for my clients and myself.
Financial Advisor – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I work with individuals and businesses to build financial plans that reflect their ambitions, goals, and resources from a current and future perspective. I spend time getting to know my clients and what they are focused on accomplishing from a personal, professional, and financial standpoint. Our team provides an experience that is unmatched by others. Our clients tell others they feel heard, cared about, and understood. They refer within, so they can share the experience with their closest friends & family.
After learning about our client’s goals and their current position, our team can identify whether or not their current strategies are appropriate, efficient, sensitive to their tax situation, and from there we develop comprehensive solutions that will get them to where they need to be. It is incredibly important to truly understand our client’s priorities in order to help them accomplish what they set out to do. Providing guidance and developing a strong relationship with each individual client is what I truly love most about my role.
I am fortunate enough to lead an amazingly talented team of female financial advisors, as they develop their vision for themselves & their clients. Through coaching, training and development, we are able to share best practices with these women who are committed to delivering top-notch service to their clients, while each one of these women owns their own businesses similar to myself.
I truly believe you become a happier, more fulfilled person by uplifting others to reach their goals. I am grateful for being a leader for others, but most of all for the people who helped me get to this level– on even the worst of days they supported me and cheered me on.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would say having people talk about my career success in the community and hearing about it from others. It is always great when people are saying positive things about you behind your back.
