Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Ruda.
Harry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The company formed in 2010 based on the research work of a Japanese professor of aeronautical engineering, who created a unique blade design for a vertical wind turbine.
The founders of WPE saw a way to improve that design and create a vertical wind turbine (VAWT) that combined the best features of previous wind turbines while eliminating most of their shortcomings. Hence the patented design of WPE’s blades coupled with the system’s advanced structural engineering created a wind turbine that could be deployed in virtually any wind conditions in virtually any geography.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The blade design required many iterations. Due to the high performance of the blades, the forces they exerted on the entire system and the blades themselves required significant structural engineering design modifications. These evolutionary changes resulted in an expandable and scalable design that could withstand high winds and enable the systems to interact in microgrid configurations.

Wing Power Energy designs and builds scalable wind turbines that are designed to work in wind-based microgrids. these microgrids can be deployed to support the distributed energy requirements of small communities, industrial parks or other commercial facilities.
We are unique in that our patented blade design and advanced structural engineering allow us to be deployed in microgrid configurations which can deliver significant power while overcoming the limitations of large, utility-scale horizontal wind systems.
What were you like growing up?
I have always seen myself as an entrepreneur, even as a youngster. Wing Power is my 5th start-up although my first venture into renewable energy.
Aside from business, which is and always has been my primary interest, I am an avid skier, golfer and biker.
