Today we’d like to introduce you to Hadrien Dimier.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved from Geneva, Switzerland to Savannah, GA to study Fine Arts and while getting my BFA, I had the opportunity to work for an amazing studio that introduced me to the craft (and business !) of wedding photography.
While still in college I was fortunate enough to get an early start photographing professionally with some very talented individuals doing something I love. Working in a creative environment at a young age while gaining the knowledge and technical skill set necessary to survive in a saturated market provided the confidence and motivation needed to not only survive but standout in such a competitive field.
My photography career began with photographing intimate beachside weddings down South and has brought me to the beautiful Coastal North Shore where the rocky landscapes and four seasons bring a much-welcomed inspiration to the artistic imagery I strive hard to create. When you are honest with yourself about the path you would like to take in life, it shows. I chose to be a wedding photographer to make a living doing something I am passionate about, and I think my clients see that and can relate to it.
I photograph weddings because I have always enjoyed the energy and emotions inherent to such an important and memorable day. Luckily for me, the beach has become not only my playground but my office as well and who could wish for anything more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can honestly say that it has been a mostly smooth road. The life of an independent creative can be very hectic and unpredictable at times. My wife, Lisa has been patient and supportive. She brings some much-needed stability and grounding into my life. Speaking of challenges, starting my own blog was a challenge because there is so much you need to educate yourself on before even beginning. I will be forever grateful for her impressive and ninja-like SEO blogging skills. 🙂
The biggest challenge I have faced as a small business owner would be managing time efficiently. When you run your own business, you are the IT guy, the manager, and the administrative assistant, etc… It can be difficult to find and retain reliable help so there can be a lot on your plate at times and you have to know how to work under pressure while still meeting timelines and deadlines.
There is a lot of time spent behind the computer corresponding and planning with clients, editing images and designing albums which can certainly spill over into your personal time, so time management is key to not overwhelming yourself.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hadrien Dimier Photographie – what should we know?
I am a photographer based out of the North Shore. I specialize in photographing engagements and weddings. I photograph throughout the Greater Boston area and other parts of New England. I have been photographing weddings for over 12 years. I offer a variety of coverage options, work with you from the initial planning consult through the day of planning timeline and custom design both engagement guest sign-in books and wedding albums in-house.
My favorite part of weddings is spending time with the Bride and Groom (especially during that magic twilight hour) to create images and memories they will share for a lifetime. I would have to say that I am most proud of the incredible clients I get to work with and for. It is not every day that we get to be part of one of the most important days of someone’s life. We have a lot of fun together during our engagement sessions and on the day of, they write great reviews and send constant referrals my way. It is a reward in itself to experience their genuine appreciation.
What sets my business apart from other wedding photography businesses is my creative drive. It fuels my constant commitment to challenge myself to produce the highest quality images and custom designed albums. I am a bit of a perfectionist and my own biggest critic. When you are competing against yourself, those standards become pretty high. Editing images and designing albums in-house has allowed for a bit more creative flexibility and helped to develop my distinct photography style which tends to be what my clients gravitate towards.
Some people actually ask if the couples in my albums and on my website are models or are from a staged shoot-which they are not, so that is always flattering.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am upfront from the beginning. I am not meeting with potential clients to sell them services or products that they don’t want or need. If you meet with me, I know you are interested in booking me, and the rest is just details. I want the experience from the booking process to the delivery of images to be as simple as possible.
If something can’t be done, I am also going to tell you, so there is no confusion further down the road. I want to work with clients that want to work with me. After all, I am one of the only vendors that will be with you throughout your wedding day, so it is important to like me. I also smile a lot and try to crack jokes which can put people at ease. 🙂
