Meet Gorgeous Goddess Bosstown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gorgeous Goddess Bosstown.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve been an artist all my life, but I always loved singing and music. The first song I ever officially wrote was for a family talent show. It was in Spanish and about my puppy. I was 10 when I first heard Hip Hop and it blew my mind. I was utterly smitten and tried my hand at free style. It was a good effort, but also pretty bad. In my teens I started playing guitar and writing songs. After moving to Boston, I joined an Indie Rock band called The Dotted Eyes. I learned a lot and loved making music with those guys and after about four years our time together came to an end. I played and toured solo for a few years, seeking a new musical expression. I had spent much of my life rapping along to my favorite artists and decided that it was time for me to write my own songs. By then I had a lot I wanted to say and Hip Hop was the perfect outlet. I started making beats and completed my first album called Welcome to the Maehem, which was released in the spring of 2017.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a Hip-Hop artist. I make beats, write rhymes, and rap my face off. The message of my music is free expression, inspired by experiences I have had in my life. Hip Hop at its core is about Peace, Love, Unity, and having Fun, so I try to reflect that in my music. My music isn’t sugary however. It is real, unapologetic, and quite brash. I address social and gender issues, equality, and loving oneself.

My songs are written in the first person so that listeners experience the vibe of the songs themselves. While I’m rapping about my life, I am inviting the listeners into the mindset of empowerment and confidence that my songs emulate. What I hope that people take away from my work is that they are not alone, and that they look at the world in a new way.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Struggle is always a part of the artistic process. In fact, struggle often determines it. Whatever the situation an artist must determine if the struggle is worth it, regardless of the outcome. We live in a time in which nearly anything is possible. Even so, it takes creativity and a hell of a lot of determination to live your dream as an artist. Depending on what your goals are your financial needs will vary. Beyond just paying the bills there is the cost of getting the equipment you need, paying to play, paying a rep, paying for studio time, editing, etc.

Supporting yourself so that you have time and energy to do your art is a fine balance and takes time and practice. There is an abundance of grants, contests, and supports for artists as well. There seems to be an audience for everyone and many platforms to both showcase and receive funds for your work.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
