Meet Glenn Scott of Glenn Scott Photography in Beverly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Scott.

Glenn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Twenty some years ago I relocated to Boston from NYC and opened my photography studio. I had learned a great deal in New York, not only about the craft of photography, but the industry in general. By the time I opened the studio I was ready for a change and Boston’s North Shore was perfect for me. It’s a great place to raise a family with plenty of commercial work to keep the studio busy. Ten years ago I built out a full kitchen and started to focus mainly on food photography. Since then I’ve shot stacks of cookbooks, culinary guides, cocktail recipe books as well as advertising and packaging for the food industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
The business of professional photography is not without its challenges, but there is nothing else I’d rather do. The biggest challenge, by far, was the transition from film to digital photography. Not only was the initial investment a big expense but the process of capturing images was completely different. But, as in all things, the more you do it the better you get. Now I can’t imagine any other way to capture images than in a digital format.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Glenn Scott Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’ve created a studio space that is warm and inviting – I love opening the door in the morning. From its original maple wood floors to the vintage tin ceiling above, it’s full of antiques and worn surfaces – all of which clients love to use in photos. What sets my photographic work apart from others is my lighting. It’s fun for me to create something from nothing with light and convey a sense of place, feel and story. And when you’re having fun, it’s not really work at all.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
To me, the best thing about Boston is its sense of history. From traditions to the people, the pride and strength of Boston are completely impressive. Also, the diversity of restaurants and pubs is fantastic – there’s always a new place to “discover” with something you’ve never drank or ate before.
