Meet Glenn Romero of Snowcap Video Solutions in Melrose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Romero.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up out West in the very small town of Douglas, Wyoming. When I was 14 years old my father bought an old RCN VHS camcorder and I fell in love with how film worked. I constantly used the camera for fun school projects. Throughout high school I fell in love with music as I was heavily involved in the choir program. I dreamed of going to Boston to the Berkeley College of Music and that is exactly what I did. I went to Boston and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2006 with my degree in Music Business Management. It was here that I learned how to edit and produce all different types of music compositions. I had a few friends at Berklee that were majoring in film scoring which peaked my interest. I started to learn from them just how important and powerful music can be in the film world.

Out of college I found myself working in different sales jobs all over Boston for more than 10 years. I hated sales but did it to “pay the bills” but I knew I had to get back into the creative world as fast as possible to feed my true passions. I invested in a couple of GoPro cameras, some cheap camera gear and I started making funny music videos and posting them on YouTube and Facebook. People loved them as I started getting a lot of attention for the productions I was posting. Soon after that I had people asking me to make fun videos for their small businesses. A couple years after that my video hobby started picking up and I had enough clients in my pipeline to quit my full time job and start a video production company. Now I work with multiple agencies throughout New England making commercials and social media marketing videos helping to generate business and deliver brand awareness.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has probably been the bumpiest road I have ever been on. Starting a business from the ground up usually means working multiple jobs and longer hours than you have ever worked in your life. When I decided to officially form Snowcap Video Solutions my wife was pregnant. My wife thought I was insane but she supported me. I figured that instead of us paying for childcare I would stay at home, take care of our son and when he goes to sleep I will work on building my business. This ultimately led to me NEVER sleeping. When my son went to sleep I was making phone calls, sending emails, editing projects, booking film sessions, and networking all over Boston. I learned how to survive on a few hours of sleep a day and I never saw my wife. She was and still is a trooper for all the support she gave me along the way.

Snowcap Video Solutions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I built Snowcap because I wanted to capture, tell and preserve beautiful stories that are happening around us every day. One thing that I hate about myself is that I often get so wrapped up into everyday life that I forget to stop, take a look around and “Smell the roses” once in a while. I thought to myself, “If I could only figure out a way to slow life down and preserve beautiful moments it would be amazing. So, I decided that I actually can do that with video. So I did.

I realized that everyone has a passion and a story. I strive to bring stories to life so that it can be shared with the world. I want to inspire people. I want to give hope. I want to encourage. I want people to feel and know the deepest and most beautiful love they have ever known. Before I die I want to know that I changed someone’s life by getting them to do something positive and helpful because of a video I created. Maybe I can make someone who is afraid to travel take their first trip or maybe I can help encourage someone that has a horrible fear to pick themselves up and face their fears head on. There are millions of people out there that are changing the world we live in every day and I want to find those people and share the stories with everyone.

I take a lot of time to match and sync music to my videos. I have studied human reactions and the attention spans that viewers have when watching different types of video content. I learned that choosing the right music is about 80% of making an amazing video. Music is so powerful and it pulls emotions from the listener. If you match the perfect song to the perfect video content you have created something beautiful, priceless, and it will get a lot of attention. The time I spend on choosing music to match my videos is what I believe sets me apart from other producers.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is very different for everyone. People measure success in so many ways and it really depends on each individual. Some say success is making a certain dollar figure for an annual salary. Some measure it by having a house that is a certain size. To me, I feel like I am already successful. I measure success by my level of happiness. I try to remind myself to take a look at life around me and be thankful for everything that I have. I have an amazing family, a home, my health, and a job that I love very much. If life stayed exactly the same for me for the next 70 years I would certainly continue to be happy. That said, happiness also means pushing myself to be better at everything I do in life. Being a better person and constantly striving to inspire people through my video content means the world to me and it makes me happy when I see others who react in a positive manner to the videos I create.
