Meet Gina Galante Skillings and Katie Astone of Salon Astante from Downtown Boston of Waltham, Moody Street

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Galante Skillings and Katie Astone.

Gina and Katie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working our way up in the beauty industry for 20 years, my business partner, Katie Astone and I, found a need for high quality service at a neighborhood price. After much thought and consideration, an opportunity arose in downtown Waltham and we jumped at the chance to fulfill our vision.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any new business we have certainly hit a few bumps along the way. Starting with the necessary renovations and upgrades to the salon, to the growing pains that go along with building and developing of a great team. Ultimately, even the hardships were learning opportunities.

Salon Astante – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We strive to provide the best service for our clients, specializing in current cutting and hair coloring techniques. We also offer specialty services, such as Brazilian Blowout, nail services, airbrush tanning and expert brow shaping. One of our more notable services is a personalized conditioning scalp massage with every hair treatment. In order to provide the highest quality service, we focus heavily on continuing education for our team.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moments was the day we opened the doors to our new business. Other proud moments include being featured in Yolanda’s Style and Glamour episode on Waltham Community Access Channel, and receiving the award as Greater Waltham’s Best Hair Salon from Market Surveys of America 2016.
