Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Destramp.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Always loved the city. Late summer nights, walking around Downtown. Diners, food and exploring cities.
Some of the people’s favorite hangouts. Businesses, signage, buildings. As a child I would draw buildings, even make businesses out of shoe boxes with signs on them.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think its ever a smooth road for anybody? I was fortunate enough to get a studio in Lowell Ma. And apply my craft, my passion for illustration. You have to be obsessed with what you do. People start to take notice. Now the commissions start to come my way. Thank God for social media!
destramp.com – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I illustrate peoples homes, businesses, favorite places. I have a unique style using pen and ink, watercolor and mixed medium. When I’m not working on a commission piece, I’m illustrating places I visit.
I’m proud when I hear someone say that I make a certain building look better than what it really is in person. ha!
I think people relate to their local places and recognize the beauty of a certain place they might have not thought about until they see what I’ve come up with in the illustration.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Everyday is a proud day. A great day getting compliments from people I don’t know makes me humble.

I have a great illustration from Gary. It is a great picture of the owl diner in Lowell. It was given to me at a fundraiser for my late husband Denis. I will treasure it always
