Meet Sallie Hirshberg of Galerie d’Orsay in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sallie Hirshberg.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sallie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved art and received my degree from BU in Art History and Business. After graduating I began my corporate art career with one of Fidelity Investment’s top subsidiary companies, I spent the next 10 years as a manager and an advisor, implementing major art acquisitions for private and public collections throughout the world.

In 2000, I was ready to spread my wings and start my own gallery. After a visit to Paris and my favorite museum “The Musee d’Orsay” our gallery was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We opened our doors in September of 2000 and the following September was 911. It was a hard time for all businesses especially a brand new art gallery. We continued to focus on what we love “sharing art with the world” and made it through the bumps that came along the way. I would say overall that we have been very fortunate in our continued success. I am grateful every day that I get to work in a field I am so passionate about.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Galerie d’Orsay – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a fine art gallery located on the premier block of Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay. We specialize in museum quality artwork spanning six centuries. You will find original 17th century Rembrandt etchings through Picasso linocuts and beyond. We also represent living artists that express the voice of today in powerful and dynamic ways through paintings and sculptures.

What sets us apart is our knowledge, passion, and ability to share it with anyone. We are not a gallery that will ignore you when you walk in or make you feel intimidated.

I am most proud of the reputation the gallery has established and the friendships that I have fostered with my clients and artists. I’m also proud of all the charitable work and organizations we have partnered with over the years. I have been on several boards for charity events including Mass Generals 100 and JF&CS Woman’s Philanthropy.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are opening our Women in the Arts show in June that will run through September. It will feature original paintings, pastels, etching and sculptures by female artists including Mary Cassatt, Helen Frankenthaler, Kathy Buist, Elizabeth Ahern, Natasha Zupan, Carol Gove and Tolla Inbar. In conjunction, we will be hosting a charitable event for SheGives and donating a portion of the proceeds towards their organization.

We will also be hosting a Matisse Exhibition in October and end the year with our holiday show in December. We are working on signing several new artist to our gallery, including a photographer. We will continue to do what we do best and expand our digital presence. We invite you to visit our website to stay up to date with these exciting shows and artists.
