Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Roberts.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The thing about me is that I’m passionate about whatever I do. It’s just been part of my DNA. I graduated from Boston University where I studied art history and then pursued another adventure working at Harvard University. I get up every morning with the attitude that this day is going to be another great day. That’s just how I operate.
While I was working at Harvard a friend suggested that we get our real estate license. For no other reason that it was something new and interesting. I figured there was nothing to lose; at the very least I would learn something new – not knowing that it would change my life in so many ways. In the real estate class, I ran into an old friend whose parents owned a brokerage firm in Chestnut Hill.
This amazing family ended up giving me my first job in the real estate business. I fell in love with it and haven’t looked back. When I think about it my entry into the real estate business was really a fluke. How lucky was I, the first sale was in my first month of working, to my first buyer, and she bought the first house I showed her (she was also my cousin).
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a great road and every year seems to get better and better. Even when it’s slow (and it’s never really slow) there is always something I can do to make things better.
Just imagine a business when I first started – no email, no Internet marketing, and no cell phones. When I started we had the four Ps: “put it on MLS, put it in the newspaper, put up a sign and pray”. Thankfully those days are long gone! (although I still pray!)
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gail Roberts & Team story. Tell us more about the business.
Without a doubt, I am most proud of the business I have created and the team I have built. We back each other up. I always say what people remember even more than good service is bad service, so you’ve got to do everything you can to give excellent service.
To that end our team support one another and make sure that someone is always available to take a call, prepare for a showing or answer a question. Having good support allows me time to pursue another one of my passions- volunteer work.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
