Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle.
Gabrielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Gender equality has long been a topic of interest to me. In college, as a psychology major, I worked as a research assistant. During this position, I began human advocacy research projects. One in which included developing an intervention method for saving women and children from human trafficking in West Africa.
I then began to continue to educate myself on women’s rights movements and what was going on in the film industry, politics, and social movements. I realized we are in a social revolution and this is the time for women to stand up for themselves. It is a time, which I am lucky to be a part of, where we can remake what social standards have subjected us to. Currently, I am in doctoral school to become a psychologist. I will be specializing in women’s rights, multiculturalism, and Latino mental health.
As a Latina, I hope I can inspire my followers that a woman has no limits. I hope my profile can inspire women to be as stylish, intelligent, and ambitious as they want to be. I hope to be a good influence on other women minorities as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some struggles along the way are some of the factors women still face unfortunately. I will never forget walking into my science classes at the beginning of each semester in college and being pointed to the fashion classes “Excuse me I think you are in the wrong classroom, the fashion classes are on the other side of the building.” Frequently, I would have to politely ask my professors to check their attendance list, I was sure I would be on it.
There is something very wrong here.
Why must my fashion and makeup sense predisposition me to an industry?
Why should there ever be a limit on my threshold to accomplish other achievements?
Why should I continue to be told what a woman should be?
This is when I decided, I need to speak up for women, and I need to contribute to this social change.
Please tell us about Gabrielle_Villella.
My blog and social media accounts act as hub for ambitious women who want to do it all! I have sources for health and fitness, makeup and style, and business and career inspiration.
I want to be known as the woman who helps break social constructs and lets women be whoever they want to be, without hating men.
Rather, I hope my social media accounts can serve as a place to be discussing these topics with an intellectual and psychology based approach. There should be a level of transparency where men and women can comment upon things and make agreements and form conversations around topics people don’t want to talk about.
The problem with modern day gender discussions are there is a lot of talk about choosing a specific side. I want people to feel comfortable being in the middle and everywhere in, out, and in-between.
This blog is made to be inspirational, self-motivating, and self-loving; no limits.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
– Women have no limits
– Learn how to advocate for yourself & watch our world begins to change.
– Never let anyone tell you who to be.
– Our growth is exponential when we believe in ourselves.
– Education is my best accessory.
– The best way to learn about people is to become a humanitarian.
-The world is greater and more colorful than stereotypes will ever paint it.
