Thanks for sharing your story with us Fiona. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my food blog over 10 years ago, in 2007. I was still in graduate school and blogging was still a fun hobby only a few people had. The blogging scene grew over the years and I’ve kept it up after moving to Boston 4 years ago. Since then I’ve also contributed food articles to Eater, Chowhound, etc.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With blogging and social media, the hard part is keeping up with all the social media trends. In the beginning I only had to worry about the blog itself. Then came Twitter, Facebook Pages, and Instagram. It takes more time now to maintain a presence on those channels and keep writing articles. I’ve certainly grown over the years and take way better photos now.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Gourmet Pigs – what should we know?
I run a food blog and I review restaurants and bars in Boston and around the world. I travel extensively and try to find the best food and cocktails in each place. I think I’m a more adventurous eater than most bloggers in Boston and seek out a diversity of cuisines.
I also occasionally run some food tours. I do an ethnic food tour of Dorchester, Inman Square, and a food history tour of the Freedom Trail. They’re listed through AirBnB and IfOnly.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
When I started, the blogger community is pretty tight and we all grew together and support each other.
