Meet Felix Rust of Felix and Sara Photographers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felix Rust.

Felix, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We got started in photography when our son, Dash, was born in 1999. We decided to take a picture of him every single day of his life. We had the same subject and audience so, in order to not have it get boring, we continually tried to make the daily image as creative as possible. One day, a professional commercial photographer in our CoHousing community looked at the images and told us we needed to devote our lives to photography. So we did.

We started photographing other people’s children, then weddings. One day we got a call from a company that wanted to promote boudoir photography and asked if they could run a deal with us. We didn’t even really know what boudoir photography was but we agreed. Felix took some test shots of Sara and they looked great.

The first time we saw someone tear up and tell us we made them look beautiful we knew we had our life’s work. We didn’t make her look beautiful. She already was… she just didn’t see it.

So that is our mission. To show you that you are already beautiful. No before and after glammed up photoshop images. Just naturalistic gorgeous photos of how everyone already sees you. The mirror is a big fat liar. We want to teach you that.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest problem has always been marketing. We know what to do, we just have a hard time doing it. Felix is an extremely shy introvert and Sara is just shy. So it’s hard for us to tell people how great we are. 🙂

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Felix and Sara Photographers story. Tell us more about the business.
Our main focus is naturalism which seems to be counter to most other boudoir photographers. We really try to take images of not just what you look like but who you are. And we want you to see that person as beautiful as everyone else already sees her.

Our mission is to fight the advertisers who spend billions telling you you’re not young enough, pretty enough, thin enough. We want to show you that you are.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Not much. We don’t really believe in luck too much. The mistakes we made were our own and our successes were the result of work.

Pricing:

  • A boudoir session costs $220
  • An album or all images is $993
  • Most people spend around $1200 total for their session
