Meet Farrah Evita of Vita_Mins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farrah Evita.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a kid, I always wanted to become an actress but I also delved into other creative pursuits. I attempted to sew because my grandmother was a seamstress but I wasn’t as skilled as her so I left that behind me. I drew anime based off of “Sailor Moon” and I diligently read a lot of books and watched a lot of films. Then eventually I got into writing due to my parents being of a strict Caribbean background, so a pen and paper became my best friends for many years.

I didn’t know that in my adult years I would venture into many platforms as I never took many of my creative sides seriously as a kid. I began acting and modeling at 18 when I was able to legally apply for gigs and roles that I would find online or by word of mouth. In college, I found myself taking a few acting classes in both Boston and Los Angeles and also a few film classes on how to become a director. They were introductory courses but they made me fall in love with the artistry even more. I took a break from pursuing film when I started finding myself being placed in fashion companies. I started to find that fashion also had a lot of storytelling and design behind each piece or ensemble.

I, again, wasn’t too sure of my path or how to even start when I felt like I was creative and very different my whole life but never had a support system around me to assist in cementing my persona or pursuits. Luckily for me, I woke up when I got a vaccination shot that catastrophically messed up my nervous system and almost put me out for good. I fought against the shutting down of my body and realized, “I could have lost it all.” I was fortunate to start over, so I figured if I didn’t lose my life or basic abilities as I thought was going to happen why not just put yourself out there. Fear is your friend that helps you grow. It shouldn’t deter you from chasing your dreams. So I started shooting again on a consistent basis as a model, then I started sharing my thoughts and experiences on social media and lastly I started going out more and networking. I was also really involved in the community at that time when the gentrification started taking place on a more massive scale and when the protests were consistent against police brutality.

I didn’t think anything of my movements as I just wanted to live in the moment, be happy and try to help as many people as possible after my life-threatening experience with the vaccination and constant hospital visits. Then I started getting opportunities such as hosting art shows in Boston, working with awesome photographers and designers and meeting amazing people almost everyday. I then realized I wanted a deeper purpose for myself– I started to pursue web development, I put myself out as an individual that could offer styling and creative direction consulting and also as a writer. So now currently, I style and creatively direct a lot of artists and brands throughout the city and taking it outside of Boston, I also act and screenwriter now and currently working on some short films at the moment with a group of close friends, I develop websites, I do digital marketing for a couple of brands here in Boston, I model and I am also the co-founder of Vita Mins with my cousin Makeda, which promotes wellness, lifestyle and fashion. I just hope my future expands on a national level and that I’m able to assist as many folks as I can to be themselves and to not care about how others receive them and to persistently go after their dreams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely isn’t a smooth road and nor will it ever be but the journey is the best part about it! There are days where I’m like this isn’t for me because I’m so stressed out and there are days where I’m like wow I’m so blessed! I don’t think everyday will be easy by any means for anything you pursue or want. It’s just always a lesson and a journey that you must be willing to take on. A lot of the struggles I face are financially basically. I think sometimes it’s hard for me because I have such grand ideas but we always need that financial support behind those grandiose plans. And currently I am freelancing so sometimes it becomes a hindrance but we make it work! I’ve learned to live within your means and to finesse what you have at the moment so the projects can be executed. It’s better to keep going rather than to make excuses as to why you can’t do something.

Vita_Mins – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m most known for being multifaceted. I get bored easily and realize that I can pick up a lot of skills if I want to. So I currently co-founded Vita Mins with my cousin Makeda because we both have so many clothes and it’s becoming overwhelming and we’re both into helping others, spreading positivity and dropping health tips so we figured we’d start this platform for others to also get hip to other ways of living.

Currently, what I do the most of though is styling and creative direction, digital marketing, modeling and screenwriting. That is where my time is tied up in. My friend wants to start a web development agency, so I am elated for that next step!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career has been being able to meet amazing people honestly. Almost everyone I met has acknowledged my abilities and has gotten me a step closer to my dreams. I really appreciate the help I get from everyone– whether it be words or hands-on opportunities. But the reciprocation and love is very real at the moment and I can only hope it continues as I do want to help others during this journey.
