Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Ago.
Erin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Animals have always been a part of my story. Some of my earliest memories are of our family dog Penny, the English Springer Spaniel. I would walk the neighbor’s dogs and always try to bring home any animal I could! I began working in pet care 10 years ago in a doggie daycare, grooming facility. where I realized quickly that I had a passion for pet grooming. I completed professional pet grooming school in 2010 and immediately began working in a busy Marblehead salon.
Throughout the years I have furthered my education, attending educational seminars and certificate programs yearly to stay current on salon and pet safety, grooming techniques, and state of the art equipment. In 2016, I opened The Pooch Pawlor, where my staff and I fluff and buff Swampscott’s most premier pooches while managing the salon and expanding our retail boutique!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been blessed with a strong family and great opportunities. When I did struggle, I never had to alone, and for that I consider myself very fortunate!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Pooch Pawlor story. Tell us more about the business.
The Pooch Pawlor is a place where pet owners feel comfortable leaving a beloved member of their family. Our staff are professional and passionate about grooming dogs to their breed standard, using skilled grooming techniques, and maintaining a safe and loving salon. The Pooch Pawlor is known for its customer service, and care for our furry clients.
What sets us apart is that we see clients by appointment, much like a hair salon, to ensure pets are groomed within a reasonable time. We also use top of the line natural products. The Pooch Pawlor specials in hand scissored haircuts and behavioral grooming. I am most proud of the work we have done with our senior pups, anxious dogs, and dogs that were unable to be groomed in a typical grooming salon setting.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have always felt that hard work has played a bigger role in my success and that any luck can be turned around when I do my best. If not, well it wasn’t meant to be!
