Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Pinto.
Eric, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A long time ago someone told me that the best way to insure that a product or service will be profitable is to ask yourself if it solves a problem in the market. Ever since that day I’ve stayed vigilant of gaps and inefficiencies in whatever industry I was working in. It wasn’t until fairly recently that I found the problem that I would set out to solve. I had been working on and off in the construction industry for 4 or 5 years. Over this time, I realized a very common trend. Tradesmen and contractors had all the skill and none of the guidance. There are very few consulting firms that would be inclined to work with a local contractor or small business. I decided that was the gap I would fill. From there I set out to hone my skills in sales, construction management and small business marketing. I’ve held a few upper management roles to practice my craft including Operations Manager and Sales and Marketing Director. About six months ago I took on my first client as Mackenzie Consulting and the future looks bright.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just like anything else, it’s taken a lot of work to learn the skills necessary grow small businesses. I’ve implemented a lot of marketing campaigns that have fallen flat, CRMs that were more work than they were worth etc. I’ve learned from my mistakes and I think it’s made me a more effective consultant.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mackenzie Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Mackenzie Consulting specializes in business strategy, planning and problem solving within the construction industry. We work with roofing contractors, landscapers, property developers, builders etc. I think that the hands on approach we take is a little different from other firms. We will perform job site inspections, we work with suppliers, and will even join them on sales calls. This allows us to stay connected to the market and generate truly effective business plans.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now we have plans to spread the word to Boston based contractors that there’s someone that can help them take the next step in growing their business. We’re working with a lot of cutting edge tech products to make the lives of tradesmen much easier. We have satellite imaging that can measure a roof to the inch, mobile rendering software that can show home/ business owners what their property would look like with different paint, windows and siding. So, I guess, integrating technology and making it easy to use is the next big thing for the trades.
