Meet Eric Lee of Quincy Cuts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Lee.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Personally, I’ve always tried to stay fashion forward, well groomed, fit and healthy. I’ve also experimented with many different hairstyles so in the back of my mind, I’ve always had an interest in becoming a barber/hairstylist. Years later I decided to go to barber school and that helped me put it all together.

I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to come out of barber school and open my own business in just a little more than a year later. Big shout outs to Joe Rotondo who sold me this spot in Quincy. He allowed me to take this business and put forth the vision I had for it which was very different than your typical “old school” barbershop theme.

I always wanted modern, clean and chic. I also knew very early on that I wanted an appointment only system. Lots of people thought I was crazy when I told them I wanted an appointment only men’s barbershop. My clients both old and new now fully understand my vision and the appointment system has lead me to this interview here with you. It has been everything and more. All our clients know what we’re about and the “old school” shady looking exterior means nothing because once you walk in, you see the upgrades, you see the quality and time we put in to make you comfortable and most importantly look good. It’s not a gimmick. It’s quality over quantity.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a journey. Earlier I had mentioned the financial struggles of going head on into opening my own business. Coming out of barber school and still in my early 20s at the time. I wanted to have fun, I wanted to do a lot of things but I had to stay disciplined and keep on grinding towards my goals. Sacrifices have to be made in order to achieve anything of significance. I’ve definitely experienced some of my highs and some of my very lows during this time. I had no financial support from family, friends or anyone so I had to build this with every cent that I earned and it has been well worth it. When I first bought the shop it had a hole in the ceiling, floor tiles were peeling and the list goes on. Now it looks and feel like a totally different place but the journey continues. There’s always room for improvement.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Quincy Cuts – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
So I’m a licensed master barber and I specialize in all things related to men’s grooming. Hair, beard and sometimes fashion. I’m best known or locally famous for my appointment system. Our appointment system allows for a no wait, no rush environment. It also gives us the time necessary to make sure you receive a quality product each and every time.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As far as future plans go, I want to take this as far as I can. Whether it’s maximizing my potential here at this one location or possibly opening more. As long as the quality stays the same, I think people could use more shops like this. I’ve been working solo for about seven years but about a year ago I was lucky to have my friend Martino join me. He’s someone who shares a similar passion in men’s hairstyling so the future looks bright. Just have to keep on doing what we do; but better, each and every year.
