Meet Eric Edelman of Peak Physical Therapy and Sports Performance in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Edelman.

Eric, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated with my bachelor’s in physical therapy in 1994 from Upstate Medical @ Syracuse. I worked in various settings including inpatient rehab, and acute rehab until beginning work as an outpatient therapist in 1999. From there I became heavily involved in learning the specialized areas of manual therapy. Eventually opened an outpatient orthopedic clinic with a partner in 2001 where we specialized in treating spinal conditions. In 2008 I began my solo practice Peak Physical Therapy. The first office was in Norwell, MA. I began to fine tune my vision how outpatient physical therapy should be administered. This included a very patient-centered experience that required a very personalized rehab experience where the therapists spend significant one-on-one time with their patients. The customer service aspect was also elevated to a new level with a heavy emphasis on treating the patient as a person vs. a number. This required hiring and training staff in all of these areas that I felt were essential to promoting this type of patient-centered experience. We quickly grew to a 2nd office in Scituate in 2010, then Quincy in 2014, and most recently in Hanover in 2016. We expanded our specialty programs to be able to provide expert care in as many areas that physical therapy can address. We have one of the most varied group of staff with specialty areas in spine, sports rehab, TMJ therapy, women’s health for urinary incontinence, post-concussion rehab, vestibular rehab, fall prevention and aquatics. We also offer off-site aquatic therapy in three different health clubs in Scituate, Hanover, and Braintree. Our patient outcomes and patient-care experience are exceptional and our clinics have become synonymous with these great outcomes in the communities we serve. We have also added an aggressive community outreach program that includes our Athletic Partnership Program where we do free educational seminars and trainings for sports injury prevention. We speak at senior centers for fall prevention and the benefits of aquatic therapy. We also talk about body mechanics and posture at local high schools. We’re constantly involved in the community!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been challenges in regards to the changing landscape of healthcare. Copays and deductibles have rapidly increased which has caused patients to think twice about committing to their therapy. Knowing that we have constantly evolved to meet the ever increasing demand on a perceived value of our service. This means a more patient-centered approach and offering even more opportunities for our patients to improve through exceptional outcomes.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Peak Physical Therapy and Sports Performance – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We provide an exceptional patient-centered experience and have some of the brightest therapists allowing us to offer a variety of specialized programs that is unparalled. We treat infants to the elderly. For infants we treat torticollis. For children up to the elderly we have programs for the spine, sports injuries, TMJ disorders, vestibular disorders, post-op rehab, women’s health, aquatics, fall prevention, general orthopedics, and post-concussion, we do aquatics at three off-site pools. We also now have full access to turf and hard courts at our Hanover office where we can provide exceptional sports rehab allowing us to properly transition patients back to their sport. We even offer sports performance training post therapy.

I’m extremely proud of the staff we have and their daily effort to make every patient feel like the only one at the office. I’m also proud of our great outcomes and ability help so many people with such a wide variety of issues. I feel like we’re making a significant impact on the lives of many!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to continually find ways to improve the patient care experience. I never want to stop being creative and I want to find even more ways to make receiving physical therapy as pleasant as possible. We will likely open other offices as the demand for our brand of therapy increases. However, I will not force expansion and will only read what the needs of the communities are.
