Today we’d like to introduce you to Eno Adoghe.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started getting involved with cameras and camcorders when I was nine years old. I always loved filming and taking little snapshots on my canon point and shoot. I did that for a couple of years then eventually continued to play with my photography and filmmaking for fun. Then about two years ago I started going to this new church called The Life Center located on 10 church street Westford, ma. The leaders of the church cared so much about what each individual wanted to do with their lives. They kept asking me what my passions were and what I loved to do. Then I realized it was photography. I didn’t realize that I could do what I love for a living until people around me suggested it. The Life center gave me the freedom to practice my photography during church services and encouraged me to make it into a business. So, that’s how I started doing photography as a career. Through the encouragement and support from the people that surround me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think some of the struggles that I have encountered running my business is providing work that my clients enjoy while also trying to balance creating art that I also enjoy. It’s the hardest part because before I was a photographer running a business. I was an artist doing what I love to do. So, it’s important for me to keep my creativity as the core of my business. It is also very easy to undervalue yourself as an artist in this business and I think that has been the hardest part for me as well. It’s still a work in progress and it’s easy to doubt the work that I create but I believe if I put all my energy into what I’m creating the end product will always have value.
Please tell us about Eno Adoghe Photography.
I am a photography business. I do weddings, senior portraits, fashion portraits and street photography. I think my main goal with my photography is to never get comfortable. When I first started photography other photographers told me I needed to find a niche/ something that I would do continually that would be the core of my business. But, to be honest I never wanted to stick to just one art form. I wanted to do everything. Such as, Events, fashion and wedding photography. Every area of photography gives me a different kind of joy when I’m creating them. Fashion photography gives me creative freedom. Weddings allow me to capture the love between two people who are committing their lives to one another. Street photography allows me to capture ordinary people living their daily lives. There is too much art and beauty in this world to be confined to one type of photography. Which is why I want to capture everything. Every first I do, first birthday, new fashion line and high school graduation. I also hope to expand into filmmaking in the future because it’s another area that I am extremely passionate about. So, if I could say one thing that hopefully makes my business slightly different is that I want to specialize in all fields of photography. Which is why I’m consistently pushing myself to take the jobs that make me uncomfortable. Because being uncomfortable allows room for growth.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I was originally going to say I would not change a thing. Then I thought about it more and I wish that I had been more confident in the beginning. I was very shy and soft-spoken about my photography because I was intimated by all the other amazing artist with incredible photography talent. But, we all have to start somewhere. What I would say to my beginner self is to be more confident and to understand that there is time and room to grow your skills.
