Meet Emily Minerowicz of Avoprana in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Minerowicz.

Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 2013, I started an Instagram account based around food and health. At the time, I was in the beginning phase of recovering from an eating disorder and used that account to connect with other people from around the world going through the same thing. I started to learn more about veganism and ethical living and slowly moved away from focusing on recovery. Adopting a plant based lifestyle and tuning into myself through yoga were key factors in helping me recover and learn to view my body in a more positive light. In 2015, I started a new account, avoprana, as a way to share my new passions and life beyond anorexia. It’s a space where all my interests have merged together and has lead me to meet some incredible people. Photography, food, yoga and mindfulness are the basis of the content I share and they’re the things I love learning about the most. Recently, I took a trip to Sedona, AZ to get my Reiki 2 certification and have continued to study human energy on my own. I’m working on developing my skills and introducing reiki energy to others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me, the most difficult thing about creating an online space was learning to use my voice and let myself be vulnerable. It’s easy to take pretty pictures, but the real challenge is deciding what to share in the captions. I could put up a facade and pretend my life is always pink smoothie bowls and heart shaped cookies, but being authentic to myself gives me the most satisfaction. It’s more admirable to be real and honest than it is to create an unrealistic image.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with avoprana – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I share my life through social media, specifically Instagram. I talk about veganism, health, yoga, meditation, mindfulness and I’m able to connect with people all around the world, including Boston!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to dive a bit more into blogging and creating more content that inspires people to lead more fulfilling lives. I’m also looking to advance my reiki practice. Reiki has helped me a lot on my own journey and I’ve watched it impact the people I practice on. The benefits span from, physically, mentally, spiritually and reiki energy works to remove energetic blocks that manifests in different ways. It’s something I want to share with others while continuing to develop my skills.
