Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Farrell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a love for photography. After my daughter was born, I asked my own talented wedding photographer (Christian Pleva) to teach me a thing or two so I could take nice pictures of her. I slowly started learning more and more about the art of photography through online courses, tutorials and a lot of trial and error! I quickly realized that I loved photographing couples and capturing raw, candid moments. Capturing that feeling of love that cannot be articulated in words sets my soul on fire! Quickly after launching my photography business, I had the opportunity to shoot my first wedding solo – a long 12 hour day – and I was hooked.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think in a world of social media, where everyone constantly puts their best content forward, it can be easy to get down on yourself and measure your worth in “likes” and followers. The biggest struggle has been to find my own voice and style, which is ever evolving. I’ve had to shift my mindset to drown out the noise and focus first and foremost on my clients because ultimately, I am here to tell their story. I will say that I have had a great support system from the beginning – friends, family, and peers that have been my cheerleaders since Day 1!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ella Farrell Weddings – what should we know?
I am a photographer specializing in weddings and couples. I love capturing those perfectly imperfect moments, the candids that reflect the emotion of the moment, but I also take an editorial, high-fashion approach. I want my couples to look at their images and feel like they stepped out of a magazine. I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built, not only with my clients – many of whom have become good friends – but also with other vendors and small businesses. I love partnering with others to make a vision come to life and meeting other small business owners – lifting each other up has been a phenomenal experience!
What sets me apart from others is that you’re not just getting a photographer for the day – you are getting a client experience. From the initial consultation to the delivery of the final images and products, I provide guidance while collaborating with my clients to ensure that our shared vision is brought to life. I also guarantee that if you hire me for your wedding, I WILL cry when you say those vows – I’ve yet to shoot a wedding where I didn’t cry happy tears at least twice!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband Marty deserves some credit here! He holds down the fort, while I travel to various shoots and destination weddings! My daughter, Emerson, for always willing to be my model and test subject, even though I usually have to bribe her with chocolate and treats. My parents who also help keep my household running while I’m rocking my weekend warrior status, shooting weddings and styled editorials. Also one of my best friends, Annmarie, for being the first person to like and comment on every single one of my posts!
From a professional perspective, I have to thank Christian Pleva of Christian Pleva Images. He is an amazing wedding photographer who has never hesitated to answer my many, many questions about running a successful photography studio. His advice has helped me with everything from shooting to lighting to business. I also have to thank Jennifer Murray from Wedding Boston who has helped me with marketing and visibility within the Boston and New England area.
