Meet Alex Jarvie of Driven Perfection in South Weymouth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Jarvie.

Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for automobiles was sparked at a young age by my father. Our annual visits to two of Boston’s best car shows (International Auto Show and World of Wheels) were highlights of my childhood. As I grew older he introduced me to building plastic model cars. Sharing that hobby with my father gave me a basic understanding of how cars work, and taught me to have an eye for small details. While in High School, I volunteered at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline. This was truly a dream job for me, spending time with some of the most beautiful and valuable cars on the planet, meeting the owners and learning the history of how cars evolved. I was genuinely a kid in a candy store.

After graduating, I knew that I needed to continue to pursue my passion. I took my first detailing job at Autohaus in Cohasset. This dealer is no longer in business but once sold Alfa Romeo, BMW and Ferrari. Here I was once again surrounded with some stunning automobiles, and learned the basics of Auto Detailing. My path continued forward when I met a mentor, and was hired at one of the only shops in the Boston area to focus exclusively on detailing. Working for Eric Schoell at Ultimate Detail narrowed my focus and taught me that what I enjoyed doing could also become a career. I loved the variety of cars, every day something new. It was also rewarding to see the results of hard work at the end of the day. Instant gratification.

Learning from Eric (and later Rich Light of Granite Auto Grooming in Quincy) was a valuable experience and showed me how the detailing industry is constantly evolving and growing. New products, techniques and equipment are needed to achieve the very best results. I started my first detailing business in 1998 at Shaw Saab in Hingham. Responsibilities included reconditioning the preowned inventory and preparing new cars for delivery. Over the next 12 years I continued my relationship with the Shaw family and expanded into multiple locations on the South Shore. I consistently pushed myself and my team to produce perfection. We took great pride in making used cars look brand new again, and the reaction on our customers faces when they saw the results of our efforts. Sadly, Saab was killed off by General Motors in 2010 during the bailout and Shaw Saab closed its doors.

Taking everything I learned from my previous locations, I opened Driven Perfection in 2009 in South Weymouth. I took a ground up approach and with the help of my team, grew the business into what it is today. We expanded to offer window tinting, paintless dent removal, clearbra paint protection installations and upholstery repairs in addition to interior and exterior auto detailing. We are very fortunate to have an amazing group of loyal customers, and thrive on their satisfaction.

Has it been a smooth road?
Following one’s passion is never an easy road. There are constantly new challenges and obstacles to overcome. But in the end it is worth it. The satisfaction of a job well done is one that cannot be measured.

We’d love to hear more about your business. What are you most proud of ? What sets you apart
Driven Perfection specializes in interior and exterior auto detailing, window tinting, paintless dent removal, upholstery repairs and paint corrections. We aim to be a one-stop-shop for those looking for automotive appearance services. From basic hand washes to full exterior polishing and interior deep cleaning – we strive to make our client’s cars and trucks look their absolute best. To keep them looking that way, we offer Gloss-It EVO Quartz coating applications and XPEL Paint Protection film installations.

As a company, we are most proud of our customers. Whether it is a first-time visit or a long standing regular client – we pride ourselves on providing top customer service. From the initial phone call, to performing the work requested and following up after the appointment, it is their satisfaction that allows us to keep doing what we do.

The team is important as I credit them with the success of the company. RE: Teamwork – The strongest asset to any business are it’s team members. Driven Perfection is fortunate to have many talented and passionate people join our team throughout the years. It is their hard work and dedication that keeps customers coming back. RE: Charity Events – Since opening in 2009, Driven Perfection has been excited to partner with some generous car clubs and individuals in giving back to the local community. With the help of YuppieRacing.net, Heliops, Beantown Sound and Ryan Rotors, our “Cars & Copters” events in Plymouth raised sizable donations for The Jimmy Fund. We also help to organize several annual car cruises to support local food pantries and individuals in need. The Boston automotive community is inspiring, and we are honored to be a part of it.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Boston area is a great place for an Auto Detailing business. Being in the Northeast, we have the snow and salt during the winter, plus the harsh sun and baking heat in the summer. Cars need protection from all of the above. This has allowed us to grow and expand over the past 8 years. I would recommend this area to anyone following their dreams of building a business.
