Today we’d like to introduce you to Dino Funari.
Vitamin Sea Brewing was born through the efforts of Dino Funari, Pete Kiley and Josh Sherman. Three friends that got together every weekend over the last 5 years to embrace their love of home brewing. What started as a stove-top weekend hobby soon turned into a crazy idea of chasing a dream of opening a commercial brewery and taproom. With a huge following thanks to their social media presence and word of mouth, the group struggled to find a space to call home. They added another friend, Rich DiBona, to assist in their search. They exhausted all options in the seaside town of Hull. After expanding their search, and a few failed real estate deals, they were able to find a building in the “craft beer friendly” town of Weymouth with the assistance of Mayor Bob Hedlund. With a 3,000 square foot taproom planned, the group hopes to FINALLY open to the public in the fall of 2018.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We struggled with finding a space. We were very close to signing a deal that we would’ve outgrown on day one. Thankfully we stepped back after not having a good feeling about the whole thing. After that we looked at multiple spaces, all of which fell through.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’re a homegrown craft brewery that specializes in freshness. We treat our beer like a local bakery treats their bread. We want people to consume our beer as fresh as possible – when its taste is at its best. We’ve always maintained quality first. We truly believe that the “next batch” will be better than the last. We’re so blessed to have the following that we do. It’s amazing that people continue to reach out for us from all parts of the world when we haven’t even sold an ounce of beer. It’s humbling and scary at the same time. This industry is a very collaborative group of people that helps each other out. That’s the beauty of it.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve been enamored with the ocean and beach culture since I was a little kid. I’m fortunate to have family in Hawaii and was lucky to learn to surf at a young age. I always wanted to live near the ocean and am lucky to call Hull home. This love of the ocean is what helped me create ‘Vitamin Sea.’ It’s my happy place, the place where I decompress. I could be having the worst day but the minute I turn the corner on the boulevard and smell that salt air, I feel an enormous weight lifted. I’ve always been a bit of a joker. I love to laugh and have a good time.
