Today we’d like to introduce you to Dina Konovalov.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born in Baku, Azerbaijan I moved to United States with my family at a young age and immediately found a medium through which I would communicate and tell stories – photography. After earning Bachelor’s Degree Fine Art Photography in 1999 at Mass. College of Art, I started working for Ticketmaster/Citysearch and freelanced as a contributing photographer to many other local publications. Later, I have co-founded and operated a full photo and video production company photographing people during all stages of their lives. Today, I am a proud owner of my dream studio – Dina K Photography and specialize in photographing high-fashion and editorial assignments, creating portfolios for actors/models, artistic portraits and capturing unique events. I am proud to say that my work has been published in Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Boston Common Magazine, Improper Bostonian, The Knot Magazine, Institute Magazine, Solis Fashion Magazine, Imagine Magazine and many more print and web publications. I had privilege photographing amazing and talented people such as Nicole Richie, Sting, Giuliana and Bill Rancic, Andy Cohen, Mayor Menino, New England Patriots team including Tom Brady.
While I enjoy my commercial and editorial work, I try to find time to devote to my fine-art photography and take part in exhibiting at galleries. As a mother of 2 boys, I dream of passing on my love for art and creativity to them however sports is winning at this time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is never a smooth ride – you go through many ups and downs, hear many no’s, work weird hours and find ways to stay afloat during tough times. Having been in business during the market crash took a toll on many small businesses but it made me re-focus the direction I wanted to take with my photography to and, ultimately, created many more interesting and creative opportunities.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dina K Photography – what should we know?
I am proud to say that I have become a household name for much local talent. I work with many actors and models to help them advance their career by creating images that draw attention. I work with Boston Casting (one of the biggest casting agencies in the area) and all the main talent agencies in the city.
However, you don’t have to be a model or an actress to experience a shoot in my studio – I love working with anyone looking to create artistic or glamorous portraits. Favorite part of my job is to show someone their beauty in the photos we create together. I am often told that I can make anyone feel comfortable in front of the lens, I hope that’s one of the reasons my clients enjoy the process and we can capture their true soul.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Professionalism, creativity and paying attention to each client. Also, trying to stay balanced while juggling work, life and family. To be successful – I must stay true to what I love to do and who I am.
