Today we’d like to introduce you to Devorah Steinberg.
Devorah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was my dream to create a holistic healing practice where I could provide comprehensive mind, body, heart and spirit services to individuals and couples, and create retreats, groups, and training for the greater Boston community. I attended Simmons College of Social Work and after graduating in 1991, that is when the REAL training for me began! I founded Genesis Therapy & Coaching in 1995 and since then, completed a two-year training in spiritual integrative hypnotherapy, then a year-long training in body-based trauma treatment, a year-long training in spiritual counseling and certifications in EMDR (a mind/body trauma treatment), Reiki energy healing and became a certified yoga instructor at the Kripalu Yoga Center in Stockbridge MA.
The various tools and ingredients that I have put together over the past twenty-six years have created a toolbox of intensely powerful and effective approaches to help people improve the quality of their lives on all levels, in their emotions, bodies, spirits, and relationships. Many clients tell me how much they appreciate the “one-stop shopping” they can do when they work with me and I am proud of the improvements they make in their lives as a result of the time we spend working together in my cozy home-like office in Jamaica Plain. I began providing online courses, training, and groups in 2017.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a struggle to open my practice! My first question I asked myself was: Do I find an office or clients first? I rented a small space in Coolidge Corner for just two hours per week at $8 per hour and by the time I moved into that space, I had my first referral! Since then, I have had to work diligently not only to continue training and committing to my own self-care and personal growth, which I believe are both absolutely necessary to continue to provide the highest-quality deep healing services, but have had to continue to market and promote my services so that people in need who want what I do can actually find me! And, since I do not accept health insurance, it is no easy task to be found and for clients to be able to afford my services which they must pay out-of-pocket.
By now, 26 years later, clients refer clients and many people find me on my website, but it continues to be a challenge to market and promote my business. But, that was not the case in the first few years. It is very rare to find a healing practitioner who integrates the variety of approaches that I do under one roof so I am extremely committed to making myself available to those who really want to work with me, who are ready for more than just traditional talking-therapy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Genesis Therapy & Coaching – what should we know?
I provide mind/body/spirit healing and life coaching to individuals and couples in my Jamaica Plain office and online webinars, training courses and groups to anyone in the world community who has access to the internet. I am very proud of the success my clients experience in their work with me. They usually meet the goals that brought them to me, but even better, often find that they experience benefits and improvements in their health, psychological, spiritual and interpersonal lives that they did not anticipate or expect. I focus on what is known as “bottom-up” processing, beginning with the body, integrating the emotions and then moving up to the thoughts, rather than “top-down,” which is the approach of traditional talking therapy.
There is no other practitioner in Boston who integrates the particular variety of healing modalities in one place, including counseling, yoga therapy, hypnotherapy, body-based therapy, mindfulness and meditation training, EMDR trauma treatment, spiritual counseling and reiki energy healing. I am also a certified divorce mediator and provide collaborative mediation services with attorney/mediator Barbara Kellman, Esq, to couples seeking to divorce ensure that I provide a caring, supportive and professional experience for clients from their first contact with me through their final session.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity. I am truthful, supportive, intuitive, trustworthy and kind throughout the client experience and I know that has led to the great successes that I have had over the past two and a half decades. I treat every single client that way that I would want to be treated if I were seeking supportive and healing growth help from a professional clinician.

- $165 per session for couples counseling, 50 minutes
