Denise, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Middle class up-bringing with parochial school equals “good girl” obedience, ‘don’t speak up or rock the boat’ so my deepest needs, desires, and destiny were squashed. As I matured I drifted according to other’s story of me – what they needed me to be. Getting divorced at 35 year old gave me the opportunity to say No! I’m going to grad school full-time. Most people go to therapists…I become one instead. I’ve always studied the mind, story’s, family systems and developed that into a counseling career until I burnt out. Becoming a trainer for the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies was next for 12 years and I loved it! Discovering my courage to step into bigger and more responsible roles, winning global training awards, running with purpose, passion, and shining fueled my life as never before. I thrived! In 2007, my mom died and family dynamics changed, I suffered from depression, worked too much with no quality of life. Then I was harassed when the #1 company bought out my company. In the midst of this turmoil, I completed my 2nd Masters of Education degree in Instructional Design. Resigning from one pharmaceutical company to another where I was bullied. Life was miserable.
Somehow in the middle of that I wrote an eBook and created A Muse Your Self Writing business and spent years seeking alternative healing modalities, becoming certified in many of them. By July 2012, I was ready to check out with a pile of pills and no purpose. Hearing the thought “It’s not your time…no one gets power of you” is what saved me and I asked to be shown my purpose. That is how Awesome Life Coaching was born.
I deliver awesome coaching results so YOU can LIVE an awesome life…not just go through the motions numb, stagnant, disempowered, or suppressed. Each person has a divine right to Thrive with health, money, love, and joy. I’m committed to being the best coach possible for my clients who reap the benefits: business are saved from bankruptcy, income increases (as much as 4x for some of them), engagements and marriages have occurred, and sibling reuniting becomes possible.
Transformational coaching for healing the wounds of the past, the repressed, suppressed, or oppressed aspects of ourselves from our upbringing is key (The Shadow Voices). Then the fully enlightened, integrated in whole body, whole being person can operate and succeed with ease in business and in life.
I have transformed: with more courage, speaking on stage, appearing on local cable television and radio, coaching clients globally, and knowing that what I do matters. I gained confidence, speak up, and challenge myself daily to keep healing, transforming and shining my divine light. That is my calling, my blessing – and my joy.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a woman entrepreneur is not for sissies! It takes nerve, perseverance, courage to keep moving forward with small steps, and celebrating every step taken along the way. I’ve learned to ‘fail forward faster’ so that my success is inevitable. My commitment is to help other entrepreneurs to the same.
Mistakes? Plenty! Financing, advertising, promotion/sponsorships before I was ready, websites, social media, and more. One big lesson learned is consistency to build a following, a tribe of people who resonate with my message, services. And the realization that “the person is the business” – something I tell my clients all the time. Learning networking skills, budgeting, financial management, and a myriad of other “gears” in a coaching business takes time, patience, compassion even, and most importantly – a committed group of trusted colleagues who have my back. My mastermind group is my support and now my ‘sisters.’ We are on the same journey so are there to lift each other up when one stumbles. We share and collaborate instead of compete – that is a healing gift in itself. Asking for help is a major lesson – trust – follow through, and building a team is key.
It may be tough, but it’s been worth every tear, sweat, sleepless night, and doubt to reach the joy, satisfaction, wisdom, expanded expertise, and knowledge that I am making a difference by being alive and coaching.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love Boston and Southern NH. The history provides a grounding factor contrasted against vibrancy, growth, and change. Entrepreneurs, coaches, healers, and creatives can live anywhere but the Boston region offers it all with education, business, and recreation – a full, balanced lifestyle.
To start out in business the best advice is to invest in a success coach – it will shorten the struggle, floundering, and low sales. The Tapping Into Wealth program, which I am a Master in, causes breakthroughs in the cycle of ups/downs or even repelling money – we reprogram the brain for success. Working with the subconscious as I do clears and activates personas or limitations that can trip up the client.
Coaching is a growing field as more people realize that “everyone needs a coach, they just don’t know it yet,” is what I tell my networking group. Working with the mind/body/energy/spiritual holistically is so my more effective that traditional talk therapy (although that has its place in healing too.) The outlook is bright to help more people heal their minds, hearts, and lives.
The internet makes the online entrepreneur lifestyle so appealing and accessible. And for local, face-to-face businesses there is an atmosphere of providing top notch, world class service that can’t be beat. (I lived in NC for a few years, but it was never ‘home.’) Give me New England any day for its people, places, pleasures, passions, and profits.
Improvements can always be made in empowering people to be more of who they truly are, building confidence, resources, and opportunities for learning, networking, and collaboration. Meetups, community education, social groups weave together the strands of humanity that connect us all. When one succeeds…we all succeed.
