Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Webster.
Dee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I knew I wanted to work in a job that filled my soul at a young age and went to college locally: Rhode Island College for B.A. in Secondary Education/English and Providence College for an M.Ed.
I have been in education as a Special Ed. teacher assistant, a middle and high school English teacher and even a very short stint as Assistant Principal for 20+ years. While doing that I also dabbled in real estate, becoming a Realtor in 2010. As the education system became more broken and the urban students I taught became less engage-able, I leaned into Real Estate to fulfill my need to help. I left education completely in January and never looked back. I have incorporated my past career with my present by educating my clients throughout the often stressful process.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was born and raised in different towns in Connecticut, New York, finally settling in RI. My dad was a salesperson who was transferred every 2 years before realizing it was no way to raise a family.
Because of those moves, I had to learn to adapt quickly in order to make friends. How many kindergarteners are adept at conversational skills? But I had to break in to “lifelong cliques” and I was successful. That need to meet new people and my fascination with the different house styles we chose could be what guided me toward real estate! I now share my vision for what a home’s true potential is despite its present appearance and I am highly communicative. Both great traits in my business!
Dee Webster, Realtor – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I enjoy helping people achieve their goals. Whether it be a condo in the city, a sprawling ranch in the suburbs, a true fixer-upper or anything in-between I make it my mission to not stop until we find a home that meets most of their needs. I have even been known to bring attention to what could become major issues that the clients’ emotional self is ignoring because they LOVE the pantry or the back deck. My job is to make people happy.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
Probably the most important lesson (that new college grads should hear) is that just because you have a degree in one thing, doesn’t mean that’s where you will find a career or even your passion. Be aware of what aspect of any job is fulfilling your soul, not just your wallet and follow that. It make take years but is well worth it.
