Meet Dee Davidson of Simply Soothing Sanctuary in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Davidson.

Dee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a licensed Kriya massage therapist, reiki Shamballa master, and yoga instructor. I work out of my home in Kingston, Ma where my husband and I have created an environment that works on the premise that we heal from the “Inside Out” and we help people to bring themselves to this place from a point of relaxation.

I came into this field of work after 911, when I took a look at my life and asked myself the? “If you died tomorrow, do you feel you have served your soul’s purpose?” Shortly after that, I ended up with some recovery time so that I had to stay home and do little to nothing after a surgery. At this time I found out about a massage school nearby and my journey began. I started school in January 2002 and graduated in 2003. My business “Simply Soothing Sanctuary” is my Gift and I try to give back when possible. I have a 7-circuit classic labyrinth in my backyard for walking and sacred space for yoga and meditation. We like to say that once you come to visit you keep coming “Home”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating a home-based business has been a challenge, but through diligence and the fact that I feel I have been given the gift of helping others come to a place of relaxation, my life’s work has proven to be beneficial in all aspects. Slowly, by word of mouth I have gathered a client base that provides me with what I need.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Simply Soothing Sanctuary – what should we know?
Simply Soothing Sanctuary is just that! A place to come to and give yourself the opportunity to let go. I pride myself on being nonjudgmental and intuitive in my work. As a Kriya massage therapist, I open myself to my client and when I physically connect I also allow the connection to go deeper. Through my Yoga training, I can help a client settle themselves into deeper relaxation through breathing and listening to my voice as I guide them in a body relaxation meditation (called a body scan). Once I place my hands on the body I do not disconnect so that they are always aware of where I am and they are not left anticipating my touch. This allows the body to trust me and in return gives them more of an opportunity to “let go!”

I love what I do, and do what I love! This is evident in my work.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have many others that deserve credit. I suppose from the starting gate, the program of Alcoholics Anonymous is the most major. Through the 12 steps I was able to hope and from continuous daily sobriety, I became teachable and open to major changes in my life. Having the courage to challenge myself to follow different paths that opened to me, life changed and so did I.

In my work, I find many mentors and I am open to learning from them. They say that “when the student is ready the teacher appears” and I find this to be true. My husband is my biggest cheerleader/advocate and has been beside me with it all. I met him in the program of AA and we have been happily married for 25 years. My life is a learning experience and I hope to always remain teachable.
