Today we’d like to introduce you to David Orr.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I guess it all started when I was 13 and my ballerina sister would pick me up from school and take me to the dance studio. During those hours that sights and smells of the professional ballet studio embedded deep into my blood a reverence for the beauty of bodies in motion.
Decades later and across the country I returned to my reverence of dance by providing specialized massage therapy exclusively for dancers.
It is my profound honor that I am able to work with such exquisitely creative clients. Today, I have a concierge practice dedicated to the care of dancers. My practice has evolved into a whole person therapy, focusing on unlocking the dancer’s creative spirit through emotional and physical alignment in the body.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am very fortunate that the road to my highly specialized practice has been very smooth. My practice continues to focus a spiritual and physical integration against the backdrop of the creative imperative.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the David Orr, LMT story. Tell us more about the business.
In essence my business is a massage therapy business. But that only tell a small part of the story. A dancer is a profoundly creative artist. As such, they are very sensitive to the movement and energies around them. Beyond their impressive sensitivity is the extreme discipline and inescapable connection they have with their bodies. They have no escape from the demands of creativity and the sensitivity of the artist.
My practice goes beyond the alignment of the physical body but incorporates the state of the dancer’s creative self and emotional makeup as it gets manifested in their body.
In the safe harbor of a session with me, clients plumb the depths of their body’s connection with their creative spirit. As with the rest of the dancer’s art form, this requires tremendous courage. However, the rewards are profound and life altering as a new or renewed relationship with the limitless power of creation is fostered.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I guess I had the profound fortune to have a sister who introduced me to the world of dance. I also had the great luck to find the perfect, quiet and embracing environment of Karen Hillard’s massage therapist group.
