Meet David de Diego of Travelers Antiques Estate Sales in Middlesex County

Today we’d like to introduce you to David de Diego.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in antiques started when I was a child while going shopping with my mother to yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores. I began buying and selling at a young age to local antique dealers as well as friends. It was at this time that I gained an interest in the history behind antiques. This is when I started to meet a lot of older antiques dealers and historians that shared their knowledge with me.

Travelers antiques started when I began doing what I love– selling antiques in between other dealers. Soon enough people started approaching us to do estate sales for them and that grew our passion to open our brick and mortar mom and pop shop. We worked really hard to get that off the ground and running in New Hampshire, but life had other ideas for us! No matter how much time and energy we put into the store, the estate sale aspect of our business was growing faster than our time could handle. Although we loved the store, and all of the vendors that joined us there, we closed our doors and moved forward on our best adventure yet.

Fast forward to today and now I own the company Travelers Antiques Estate Sales where I make my living from helping people learn about the items they have and the value of them. We handle all types of estates, but our true passion is traveling the backroads of New England searching for that 200-year-old farm estate. Treasures can be found anywhere from a little house in the middle of the city to a historical property in the woods of New England.

I am still hunting out deals and treasures almost everywhere I go by hiking in the woods, metal detecting, at estate sales, flea markets–anywhere! And that is how we got the name Travelers Antiques.

Has it been a smooth road?
Life is not smooth sailing and it is definitely no different when talking about getting started. Whenever I thought I needed to go one way, life had me go the other way. In the end, I landed right where I needed to be. It wasn’t the brick and mortar that I put so much time and energy into, but it turned out to be the right place. Estates sales gives my family the flexibility and diversity that we need and crave. Whenever I step into a new estate, I step into someone’s world– someone’s life full of dreams, aspirations, ideas and everything in between. I am able to help them step back, take a deep breath and then I work my magic.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Travelers Antiques Estate Sales – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Travelers Antiques is an estate sale company that helps people sell the contents of their home. There are a number of reasons people do this–to downsize and move to a smaller home, moving cross country and they do not want to bring everything with them, and of course, if someone passes on and their family needs to empty the house out to put it on the market. All of these reasons bring about different emotions and feelings in the homeowners and I am there for all of them. I am proud to be able to help people move on to a smaller home or to move on with their lives.

We specialize in antiques, but we do all estates from 200-year-old barns to modern homes. We are a family owned company, but that does not mean we are not a very busy company! I am exceptionally thorough and knowledgeable in this industry… the smallest item can be your most valuable! I will always be very honest and upfront about your items– the china that held value 20 years ago is the hardest sell now, and some of the items you would never expect may be your most popular and valuable! The market has changed and we bring in the younger, buying crowd looking to fill their new homes. We also have a huge clientele of antique and decorative buyers which helps my clients get the right amount of their items.

Our energy sets apart from the others! We have a commitment to this; it’s not just a job, however, a way of life. I am at every single sale and I make it a much more hands-on, personal experience for the shoppers. We try to make our sales more of an event than just a sale. We get people excited and involved even before the sale starts with pictures, videos, live stream competitions with prizes, and so much more!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how diverse our city is and how historical it is. All of this makes for great sales where you truly don’t know what each house will have to sell!
