Meet David “Dave” Chandler of Dave Chandler Magic

Today we’d like to introduce you to David “Dave” Chandler.

Dave Chandler, ‘The Boston Magician‘, has been performing magic for over 20 years. His engagements have ranged from private parties to distinguished public relations events. Dave is a member and touring artist of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and he performs nationally. He’s also been a featured performer at the World famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA. Dave is currently a regular performer at the longest running magic show in New York City—“Monday Night Magic,” and he’s won multiple awards, including 1st Place, “Stage” category, 2014 International Battle of Magicians. Whether he’s performing magic on stage or close-up, Dave’s unique brand of entertainment is always a highlight.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Performing as a magician has its ups and downs, but I like the challenge of making the impossible seem easy. The money is great if you’re good, but you also must be a good marketer and business-man/women.

The struggle is public perception. While most people enjoy good magic, prospective clients in the local market often book the cheaper acts with the mindset that one magician is nearly as good as the other.

In the corporate market, however, this is not true. Most corporate clients want a great act, and they’re willing to pay for it so the fee is secondary.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
“Likability” is key! Personal attributes such as appearance and an ability to connect with people are essential. Ambitious attitude and self-awareness are also important.
