Meet David A. Cox of Tech Talk America

Today we’d like to introduce you to David A. Cox.

David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got my start working at an Apple Computers dealership on Cape Cod back in 2012. I learned through that experience that my gift wasn’t so much that I was technically savvy, but that I was very good at teaching it to people who were not so technically proficient.

Starting in 2012, I started to upload tutorial videos to YouTube; teaching people how to do this or that with their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. It started as a hobby, but within a year the ad revenue had jumped to the point where it ended up becoming my full-time job. Since then, I have created over 500 video tutorials with a combined total of over 55 million video views.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has been relatively drama-free, but I’d say my biggest struggle (in the beginning) was simply self-confidence. As a kid, I was heavily bullied and that trauma stays with you (even if it’s just in the back of your brain).

It has taken me years to overcome this and part of my ability to move on has come from my fans. I love receiving fan letters from all over the world and to hear that I have helped someone get a job, master a skill, edit a video, build a website, etc. is the kind of fuel that I need in order to keep producing.

Please tell us about Tech Talk America.
I use YouTube as a teaching platform to teach technology basics to millions of people around the globe.

I’m most proud of the simple fact that I make a living creating video content that is benefiting society.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I place a value on the lessons that are difficult to learn in life. If I hadn’t made those mistakes, it never would have led me to where I am today.
