Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Duane.
Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I like people and parties. I feel lucky that I was able to turn that into a career. I moved to Boston right out of college because I was madly in love with a boy & his Boston accent.
He attended law school, and I started out planning weddings at Hyatt Regency Boston while attending graduate school at Emerson College at night. There were many nights spent at the Beantown Pub. I eventually landed my then dream job selling and planning weddings and social events at the newly built Liberty Hotel. From there, I jumped to Boston Magazine in 2008, continuing to work with the city’s top wedding professionals, who went from being colleagues to clients.
Fast forward to 2018, and I’m still the Director of Wedding Sales for Boston Magazine. I did have the opportunity to get back to my wedding planning roots in 2014 when I accepted a position selling luxury weddings for The Catered Affair at The Boston Public Library, an experience like no other. Boston Magazine is such a fun place to work because you’re always in the know about what’s happening in our city. I will always value the clients, friends, and relationships I have built over the years as a result of this role.
We live in Scituate, which is extra special in the summertime, with four little boys who have their own #duaneboys hashtag. Our house is a busy place, with friends and family always popping in to say hello and have a drink. It’s a crazy, hectic, mixed up, fun, wild life that I wouldn’t change for the world. People are constantly saying to me, “I can’t believe you work with four boys!” The truth is, I feel lucky to have found a career and a company that make it possible to keep it all running (pretty) smoothly.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a pretty smooth road, but I also like to think of myself as an optimist and a hard worker (thanks Dad)! Of course, the struggles and challenges are part of the story, and usually, present the best opportunities to learn and grow.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Boston Magazine – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
With 15 years in the Boston wedding industry, it’s safe to say I specialize in weddings…. though what that actually means has changed over the years. While I started out on the planning side, working with brides and families, my client’s are now the city’s top wedding professionals. I often joke that I found a way to remain a part of the wedding industry, without having to plan weddings! I am also known as a connector of sorts. People often reach out to ask me to put them in touch with someone else in the industry. Somehow I always seem to know who is hiring! I am proud of the Boston Weddings brand for being consistently recognized as the leader in the industry. Planners and photographers often tell me they submit their weddings to Boston Weddings first, which is a huge stamp of approval. As an extension of Boston Magazine, the Boston Weddings brand brings luxury weddings to a local level.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that once you’ve spent a few years in Boston, you start to realize how small the city really is. I love that you can walk the whole city and feel safe in every neighborhood. I love the food. I love people. I love the amazing charities and non-profits I have come across over the years. The only things I don’t like are boring and not worth mentioning.
