Meet Danielle Beck of Bedford Aesthetics & Nutrition Center in Bedford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Beck.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My start in business ownership was a bit unconventional, but a long story short, it began because I couldn’t find a traditional healthcare job doing what I truly wanted to do, which is preventative care with a holistic and integrative approach. My bachelor’s degree is in nutrition, which ended up complementing my nursing degree better than I ever thought it would. I initially started my business as an individual nutrition counseling practice. Then not long after having my first child and aging what felt like 10 years over the course of just one, I became interested in anti-aging and restorative medicine. I took training courses in injectables, set up my business to offer medical aesthetics and started offering Botox and Dermal Filler treatments along with medical grade skincare, microneedling, skin resurfacing peels and treatments. For now, my practice is just myself and I still work a more traditional nurse practitioner job several days a week, so I am slowly building the nutrition side of the practice as my time and schedule allows. I currently offer micronutrient blood testing and my hope is to have more nutrition services by the end of the year.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes and no. I love what I do, so doing the actual “work” has truly never felt like work. However, I’ve learned a lot over the years in the business ownership aspect. The medical aesthetics industry has so many different treatments available that you can offer in your business and I’ve found it really difficult to decide what to offer and what not to offer. One of the best pieces of advice I got from a colleague was to pick a handful of services and just get really good at them before adding anything else to your menu. Taking that approach has helped me focus a lot better. Another challenge I face regularly is marketing. There are so many marketing options out there and it is really hard to know exactly what to pick that will give you a good return on your investment it in. In the past, I’ve spent resources and time on the wrong types of marketing, which was really disappointing. However, In general, I’ve tried hard to look at the challenges I’ve encountered as lessons learned 🙂

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bedford Aesthetics & Nutrition Center story. Tell us more about the business.
Bedford Aesthetics & Nutrition Center is a Nurse Practitioner own medical practice. The practice has two divisions: medical aesthetics and nutrition. On the medical aesthetics side of the practice, we specialize in non-invasive anti-aging and regenerative facial and skin treatments. These include Botox, dermal fillers, Kybella, medical grade skin resurfacing peels and skincare, as well as microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy). The nutrition side of the practice is still in the process of being built up, but currently includes micronutrient blood testing and individualized nutrition counseling provided on a case by case basis. Our micronutrient blood testing is unique as it measures 35 specific micronutrients including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and metabolites. This testing provides valuable information on a patient’s nutritional deficiencies and allows me to provide supplement and/or nutritional recommendations on how to replete deficiencies.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
This is definitely not a question I’ve ever been asked before. I feel that in life and in business, it isn’t necessarily about luck, but more about how you perceive the experiences you encounter as well as how you choose to deal with them. Being in the nursing field has provided me with a perspective on life that I truly don’t believe I would have if it weren’t for my profession and the experiences I’ve had in it. Within my first year of this profession, I quickly learned that my worse day didn’t hold a candle to what I had seen my patients go through. It gave me a very raw and first hand understanding that “things could be worse”. So, instead of feeling that luck has played a role in anything, I come from the standpoint that instead of having “bad luck”, I know that things could be worse and instead of getting a dose of “good luck”, I feel grateful that I’m able to do what I can in life and in business. Then to get where I want to go, I just need to push harder 🙂
