Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Mendieta.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father worked for the government and was nomadic in nature, so I moved around a lot. I saw more of the United States by the time I was 10 years old than most Americans see in their entire lives. This was very empowering and set the tone for what I consider to be a lifelong exploration and learning experience.
I attended Texas A&M and Corpus Christi for my undergraduate degree, which was a bachelor of fine arts with an emphasis in sculpture.
I’ve been a volunteer in some capacity or other throughout my life (peer educator in high school, docent at the Art Museum of South Texas, beach or highway cleanups, etc.) so it really wasn’t surprised most people that after college I became a Peace Corps volunteer and served in Russia for two years. I worked on several projects during that time (grant writing, small business development, etc.), but my primary role was that of an English teacher. I lived in a small town of about 14,000 people about 20 miles south of the Finnish border called Pitkyaranta.
After completing my volunteer commitment with the Peace Corps, I joined the agency as the recruitment manager out of the southwest regional office, and national trainer for new recruiters. During this time, I went back to school and graduated from the University of Texas with a Masters in International Management. I also started up a couple of different successful tech ventures.
A transition from Peace Corps after eight years when I got recruited by the Clinton Foundation in Boston in 2008. I ended my tenure there as the Chief Human Resources Officer of the Foundation’s largest initiative, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), which had more than 700 domestic and international employees.
I have always considered myself a bit of a serial entrepreneur with a diverse skill set and passion for improving organizational performance, developing workforce, and building metrics. In 2012, I broke away from CHAI to start a niche consulting firm (Aadmi Consulting) with my business partner Priya Licht, which focused on supporting organizations with their global expansion and retraction strategy. This is where I have been thriving since 2012 and every day brings amazing puzzles that need solving.
Aadmi Consulting is a global human resources consulting firm based in Boston, Massachusetts, with clients based both in the United States and world-wide. We are a full-service firm committed to helping you develop a sustainable employee recruitment and retention strategy that will enhance your business and foster your growth. Aadmi Consulting works with businesses of all sizes and styles, from nonprofits and startups to medium-sized companies, helping our clients through the full life cycle of their businesses.
Aadmi has created a niche in the development community because of our knowledge of the local labor compliance that is essential for the success of every project. Our knowledge and experience results in a quality product, performed on schedule and on-budget.
Our philosophical approach to every project is to first develop an understanding of the client’s needs. This allows Aadmi to develop a detailed scope of services within our proposal to meet your goals and objectives. As we proceed through project, constant dialogue is maintained with the client and project team through project meetings, telephone calls and e-mail.
Aadmi’s human capital practice focuses on developing cohesive systems that integrate process, philosophy, and culture. Aadmi’s practice focuses on interpreting organizational information and building solutions that take into consideration the existing resources available. Our services include every aspect of the employee lifecycle, from planning human capital, to talent acquisition, to termination, and everything in between.
Our staff is assisted by technology and resources, many of which were built in house. In addition, Aadmi incorporates the latest demographic and appropriate labor law to maintain compliance even through the planning stages of your project.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If everything is running smoothly, then you’re not doing it right. I’m not saying that I look for the rockiest road, but I firmly believe that without seeking out new challenges, I wouldn’t be learning new things, and this would negatively impact Aadmi’s clients, who frequently come to us with challenges that nobody else has seen before. The global arena in which I operate tends to be fraught with contradictions and sometimes misinterpretations. Not every country is as meticulously mapped out in terms of its labor code or corporate regulations.
Aadmi Consulting – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Aadmi Consulting is a full life-cycle HR consulting firm helping clients with their human resource needs from Recruitment strategy to Employee Retention and Development and all that comes in between. Using Aadmi’s domestic and international HR expertise, our clients can build the people systems and processes that will take them from a small or mid-size operation to one that is built to last. Our approach helps you build a growth oriented, sustainable and dynamic people strategy that is efficient without compromising on ethics and compliance.
We specialize in global compliance, which has lead us to build the most amazing software, which we call Global People Strategist (www.GlobalPeopleStrategist.com). We are particularly proud of the software because it maps incredibly difficult to find labor and corporate compliance information, and turns that highly technical, jargon- ridden language into something accessible to the layperson. It also has some pretty cool features that I wish I were available to me when I was an in-house practitioner of HR. This product, and our hands-on approach to consulting is really what sets Aadmi Consulting apart from the rest.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve always taken pride in my work, and I treated every client and project, no matter how big or small, with respect. My point of pride is less about an individual accomplishment in my career, but rather my attitude to the work.
