Today we’d like to introduce you to Danie Paul.
Danie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a pre-diabetic weighing in at 238.4 lbs. I have been obese for the majority of my life. On September 30th of 2016, I decided to text Fred Allen, my personal trainer, to ask about his services. By October 3rd, although I had a horrible cold, I made the decision to start my fitness journey and never give up no matter what! That was the day I chose life over death. I committed to living a healthy lifestyle forever.
Fast forward to 2018, I am no longer pre-diabetic and I am now over 50 lbs down from personal training with Fred, creating healthy eating habits, drinking lots of water, and jumping with my little ole rope!
Today, I am a PerFicMsFit Ropes Instructor who helps individuals realize that working out feels amazing and does not have to be boring. Also, creating healthy eating habits does not mean you never get to eat cookies again, but that you should be intentional and eat smart by enjoying all foods in mindful portions.
Has it been a smooth road?
No. Changing your habits in order to become a healthier individual is challenging, but it is better to struggle to do so than to be unfit and unhealthy. My struggles were normal ones that most people face on their fitness journey. I did not want to get up early to go to personal training or make time to workout after work. I wanted to eat cookies and rice all the time! I hated drinking water, so striving to drink a gallon a day was tough and the list goes on. You get the point, right? Essentially, doing what I knew I was supposed to do was a struggle because I was not use to doing it. However, over time, it became easier because I remained consistent and just did the necessary work.
No bridge will bring you from one side to the other. There are no shortcuts or back roads. I overcame the obstacles by taking the long way. After struggling and working so hard to get to where I am today, it is hard to go back because that just is not who I am anymore. The long way inevitably changes you. The shortcuts, back roads, and bridges may not have that same effect. Take the long way or you may end up right back at your starting point.

I am known for deciding to save my life and documenting my entire fitness journey in hopes of inspiring others to decide to save their life too. I am also known for jumping rope and that inspired me to start teaching my fitness class, PerFicMsFit ROPES. This is a fun and intense 1-hour circuit-style workout class that incorporates jumping rope with a variety of bodyweight exercises to effectively and efficiently burn calories, melt fat, and build muscles!
I am proud that PerFicMsFit ROPES is able to create a welcoming and supportive environment for a variety of people to come together and jump to a healthier version of themselves. PerFicMsFit ROPES sets itself apart from other classes because it is the only jump rope fitness class in Boston that does not require a gym membership!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes because being fit is universal! No matter where you are, you should be striving to live a healthy lifestyle. If you have an idea that will help other people get in shape, launch your business as soon as possible. You are essentially a lifesaver!
On my journey, I have met so many knowledgeable and supportive fitness enthusiasts from Boston. However, to my knowledge, jumping rope is not a popular “thing” in Boston. Since jumping rope is my favorite exercise and has essentially become my therapy, I am passionate about sharing my skill with the community.
Jumping rope is one of the most inexpensive, convenient, and efficient workouts with too many amazing health benefits to name in this article. So, if you do not have a jump rope, go buy one now!
