Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Venable.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I worked in community mental health centers after graduate school, that’s where I met my business partners. When I was the clinics, I noticed that there was a constant stream of referrals coming in for children, adolescents and families. So many referrals, that there were never enough therapists to meet the demands. Thinking of ways to meet this need pushed me toward developing a business model that was designed to respond to the need for therapy in the community. We started out with one small office and with five clients, and now, in 2017 our Wakefield site sees around 250 people every week! We have also solid relationships with lots of area pediatric offices and schools, but we see just about anyone who needs our help.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been an interesting and intense road! I’ve all learned so much about running a business, everything from generating payroll to marketing. And there’s so much more to know, I love constantly learning, every day brings something new.
Please tell us about Counseling Services of Greater Boston.
Counseling Services of Greater Boston, LLC offers outpatient mental health counseling to children, adolescents, families, adults and couples. We’re a varied staff of licensed art therapists, a dance movement therapist, expressive therapists and traditional talk therapists. There is so much to be proud of here, it’s hard to pick just one thing. I’m proud of our continued growth, I love making jobs for talented therapists, and of course I’m so proud of our clinical work and all the care and attention that goes into serving our clients. We’re opening an office in Georgetown, MA soon too, and we’re all very excited to see where we’ll go next.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have learned how to use accounting software in the very beginning! Life got a lot easier, once I conquered QuickBooks.
