Meet Dana Tubman of Monat

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Tubman.

Dana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a predominantly a stay-at-home mom since I had my first child in 2005. I’ve done some work from home jobs and other part-time gigs, but haven’t been back in the workforce full-time for about 12 years. I was starting to look for a more steady and lucrative job but still needed the flexibility to be the type of mom I want to be. I want to be able to pick my kids up from school, be here when they get home, host playdates, volunteer at school, attend all of their sports games and other competitions.

I really consider it a gift that I found Monat. I was looking for some new hair care products and had been following a friend’s Facebook posts for quite some time. I finally got in touch with her and had no intention of doing anything but purchasing a product or two. After a few conversations and some research on the company, I decided to not only try the products but start my own business as a Monat Market Partner. I was intrigued by the amazing growth the company has seen and the opportunity it offers. Plus, I could do this on my terms. I could work when it was convenient for me. I could still do all of the things and be the type of hands-on mom I want to be.

My thought was this: best case scenario I could make some extra money and possibly turn this direct sales job into a “real” job; worst case scenario I’d get a great discount on some awesome, naturally-based products. I’m so happy I took a chance and joined this company when I did!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t have any sales experience so being a salesperson was definitely a challenge. My upline, Amy, really helped me by explaining that I didn’t have to be a pushy salesperson. Monat Market Partners really just share the products and the company with others. The first time I sent someone a sample and followed up only to hear that they were amazed at the difference in their hair I realized what Amy was talking about.

I am more of a “sharesperson” than a salesperson… and that is something I am completely comfortable with! I mean, who doesn’t share their favorite things with their friends and families? I’ve always done this with TV shows, movies, household products, stores, professional references, etc. This has now become one of the easiest parts of my job, especially when I see how sharing Monat can help people gain more confidence, and be happy with their hair for the first time in either a long time or ever!

I also didn’t jump right into my business and wish now that I did. Our company offers a program called Smart Start, which helps you earn some pretty big bonuses in your first few months with Monat. Looking back at my experience, I wish I had taken advantage of those offers! The thing that really pushed me to go out of my comfort zone and really work this business is seeing the success of others on our team. It was the push I needed to realize that if they can do it, so can I! I encourage all of my team members to jump right in and make the most of this opportunity right from the start!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As we just celebrated Christmas, I have to say that my favorite memories are all based around celebrating the holidays with my family and extended family. My parents always went above and beyond to give my brother and I the best experiences and memories – from a traditional Christmas Eve dinner complete with “the feast of the seven fishes” to getting a new pair of pajamas and reading “The Night Before Christmas” together before going to bed, we had the best Christmases!

A funny memory based around Christmas is probably from when I was about 6 or 7. I was SO excited for Santa to come and just could not fall asleep! I was laying in my parents’ bed absolutely convinced that I could see the glow from Rudolph’s red nose outside the window!
