Meet Dana Edwards of Heads and Tails Pet Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Edwards.

Dana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Seven years ago I started working for Heads and Tails as a part-time dog walker for the extra income and I fell in love with it. After about 4 years with the company the owners moved out of state and tried to still run it. After almost a year of doing that they decided it was becoming too difficult and asked me if I was interested in buying the business. I jumped at the opportunity and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I never thought I would ever love my work. This November will be 3 years that I’ve owned the company.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle is finding the right employees. I never just hire anyone to fill the position. They have to be honest, trustworthy, good with time management, friendly and patient. It sometimes surprises me how hard it is to find those qualities and traits in a person.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heads and Tails Pet Service story. Tell us more about the business.
Heads and Tails is a dog walking and pet sitting company. Our philosophy is “Treat each and every pet as if they were your own.” Our top priority is the satisfaction of our clients and providing a safe and fun environment for our clients’ pets. We tailor everything to the needs of the client and their pet. What makes me most proud of as a company is when our clients refer us. I’m not on any social media to further expose my business so I never take any referral for granted. What sets Heads and Tails apart from other dog walking services is our commitment to the dogs and cats that are left in our care and that their owners never have to worry.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The good luck was when I went on Craigslist 7 years ago looking for a part-time dog walking position and was hired by Heads and Tails. My whole life changed the day I started working for the previous owners. As far as bad luck…haven’t experienced that yet 🙂
