Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Barracuda.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I studied Marketing & Psychology at UMass Amherst, but my main focus was always songwriting and guitar playing. Since freshman year in college (2008), I’ve accumulated an archive of over 3,000 song ideas – whether it be a guitar riff, vocal melody, chord progression, lyrics, etc. I’ve been involved in various music projects, including rock bands, live entertainment for events, electronic duos, live ensemble for silent films, and a theatrical rock production about dreams. Fast forward to today – I’m currently tackling the online arena, creating and posting original & cover content on a consistent basis in an effort to grow a strong following around the world. It’s been almost 3 months now of consistent work and the results have been incredibly exciting!
Please tell us about your art.
My primary instrument is guitar. This includes electric, acoustic, 12-string, charango, bass, ukulele, and sitar. My goal is to eventually share all my ideas I’ve accumulated over the past 10 years, whether they be in a completed form, or finishing them in collaboration with fellow musicians. I love engaging with my followers and meeting interesting artists who appreciate the same kind of music I do. I put a lot of effort into everything I put out, hoping it will inspire other people to pursue their passions, whether it’s music-related or not.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
It’s easy to think that musicians had it made back in the day where they only had to really focus on just the music. Though we have to wear many more hats in 2018, the opportunity is immense. We don’t need to rely on labels anymore. We have the power to control WHAT and HOW we put our art out there. It’s the long-term consistency that builds the following. Cities like ours can keep featuring artists (like you guys do, which is awesome) and help them get the exposure they deserve – whether it’s on social, press, magazines, events, etc.
