Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Goodridge.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cynthia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
House Call Cat Grooming started in 2004 after closing my full service Pet Grooming/Pet Supplies “The Pet Connection” after six years in Dorchester MA. A few of my clients ask me to come to their homes because they did not want to bring their pets anywhere else to be serviced due to the established relationship developed over the years between myself themselves and their pets. I first started off just servicing old clients but due to the high demand of house call I accepted on new clients. After the first year I noticed that there were very few groomers that specialized or would even consider grooming cats which are more challenging to do than dogs, I then decided to just master and service cats.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road thus far has been smooth and a very adventurous one meeting different people from all walks of life around and nearby Boston.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with House Call Cat Grooming – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I provide full Cat Grooming services inside the cat owners’ home. I provide shave downs, lion cuts, brush outs, comb outs, dematting, full baths, foam baths, ear cleaning, pedicures, sanitary shaves, maintenance grooming, and cat sitting. I specialize and am know for dematting cats and doing in home lion cuts. As a company I am most proud that the business went from part time to full time all based upon word of mouth and through internet search engines.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to understand cat’s needs. I have a lot of patience dealing with difficult cats and because of my experience working as a Veterinary Technician I have been able to point out medical concerns to owners that were able to then follow up with their Veterinarians. My Vet Tech experience also gives me the upper hand from most groomers when it comes to dealing and restraining difficult cats.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans for my business is to keep it like a mama pop shop. Less is more and too big makes you distance from your clients. I want to keep my business at a level that is personal and intimate where close relationships and trust are built with clients. I feel being too big and corporated takes away that neighborly community feeling. The only big changes would be to sell and promote items that help cat owners prevent matting to maintain their cats’ fur.
