Meet Crystal Nestor of Salon 77

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Nestor.

Crystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I remember 20 years ago, I was 14 and I begged my mother to let me go to a vocational high school. I wanted to be part of the cosmetology program so much that I didn’t want to “waste time” going to a traditional high school first.

Thankfully, she agreed, and I graduated high school at 17 years old with a license in cosmetology. I didn’t even have a drivers license yet, but I could certainly cut your hair! I had spent the first few years of my career discovering who I was going to be in this industry, paying out of pocket for as much advanced education as I could get, working in salons full time, and being a team leader/manager.

As I grew in experience, I eventually found my Home as a Stylist at Salon 77, where I was encouraged to develop specialized skills, and found my true passion for hair color.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a hairstylist is hard work! We give so much of ourselves to others, that we lose sight of the big picture. I’ve had times where I had let myself become so drained that I felt defeated, almost to the point of considering a different career.

But soon realized that I would not be happy unless I was making others happy. And as a hairstylist, we get to make people feel beautiful every single day! Now I make sure to set aside time for me, and my family so that I can have peace and balance between my life and my career.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am proud to say that I have been with Salon 77 for almost 10 years. We truly operate as a Team, working together to accommodate our guest’s needs, and sharing our knowledge and ideas with each other daily. We all have different strengths and utilize them to create an environment for our guests that is both relaxed and luxurious.

Being able to create a look for my guests that makes them say WOW is the best part of my job. Through years of developing my skill set, I have found my niche in Blonding, Updos/Bridal work, and Natural Beaded Rows hair extensions.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We are located about 20min North of Boston, and I believe we are in a perfect location for the kind of services we provide. High-end hair close to home! Being so close to i93 makes traveling our salon very convenient.
