Today we’d like to introduce you to Concetta Nicoloro.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Concetta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up I always had a love for fashion – and accessories! I attended college for fashion design, during my sr year I created a collection inspired by Alice & Wonderland. Not only did I make the eight outfits but also included accessories such as hats, gloves and ‘blinged’ shoes for each model – something that added a little extra to each outfit. At that time, although I always looked for unique jewelry for myself, I hadn’t yet realized my passion to create it. I went off and joined the cooperate world within the fashion industry. While I still love my job there, I needed another outlet for my creativity.
I still had a love for jewelry and a new desire to learn how to make it. For my 26th birthday, I treated myself to local community ed classes and started my journey in the jewelry world! At first I only made jewelry for myself and as gifts for friends and family, but eventually, I just had too much product! My friends and family encouraged and supported me to venture out to sell at shows. Fall 2017 I had my first show in Lowell at Mill no. 5. After that, I was hooked and attended about one show a month until the summer when I managed to book 2 a month.
I’m still learning new techniques for jewelry to expand my skill set and having so much fun exploring this industry! I hope to just continue to learn, grown and connect.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an exciting and positive road! I have truly enjoyed every minute of the designing, creating, and selling. I have had a few small personal injuries, with a few hammered fingers and many damaged manicures.
My biggest struggle would be that there is never enough time. I have so many ideas I would love to work on, but at this time I am not always able to bring them to life. I am guilty of spending more time creating and not enough (or hardly any!) on my website – something I am working on improving in the near future!
Gracie C Jewelry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I design and create jewelry out of my Somerville apartment. I work mainly in sterling silver, but I also mix in gold filled items. Personally, I love to wear gold, it is a way to incorporate and mix in all different types of jewelry. I specialize in geometrically shaped earrings, and that has led me to take those same shapes into necklaces.
I am really focused on creating a great product that will last and is a great value. I have thin stackable rings in both sterling silver and gold filled – you can find these in “ish” sizes – because one’s finger is never a true size! Although I don’t have a storefront you can find me at Central Flea, SoWa and Mill no. 5 this fall! My items are also sold at 4 Good Vibes in Somerville, Oh So Pritties Gifts in Wilbraham, and Crose Nest located in Lowell and Hudson!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Realizing that people are interested in what I’m making!
It has been such an amazing experience seeing that people are buying the items I am designing and making. The positive feedback from my customers drives me to continue what I am doing.
