Meet Christopher Carreiro of Aum Training Center on Newbury Street

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Carreiro.

Christopher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in nutrition and fitness largely stemmed from looking for answers on how to address my own health issues. After years of experiencing unresolved digestive issues, I was introduced to Functional Medicine and discovered that I had numerous food allergies. Once I eliminated these foods and healed my gut with a holistic food and supplement plan, I began to experience a whole new level of energy and I wasn’t in pain for the first time in years. It was through overcoming these issues in addition to learning how to regain my strength (through resistance training) after an intense jaw surgery that I realized my life’s mission: helping others overcome their challenges to lead strong, healthy lives.

During the next few years, I met my future wife, Sarika Arora M.D., who was practicing conventional medicine as an internist. She was working in a hospital and she was feeling unfulfilled diagnosing patients and writing prescriptions without ever getting to the root cause of their health issues. We began attending integrative health and wellness conferences together and she became interested in practicing Functional Medicine, which is all about helping people create health by discovering the underlying reasons their body is out of balance. She attended the Institute of Functional Medicine and left the hospital to receive mentorship from one of the top doctors around. I went back to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology with a concentration in Transformational Coaching. I also became certified as a personal trainer and a strength and conditioning specialist. Shortly thereafter, we decided to open our own wellness center and we’ve had the privilege of caring for thousands of people over the past few years.

I am grateful that we get to do what we love every day. We’ve built an incredible community of like-minded people at Aum who are committed to uplifting each other and getting stronger and healthier together.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been some challenges along the way, mostly related to dealing with family-health issues. I lost my Uncle Joe (who was also my business mentor) to diabetes. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis several years ago which has impaired her ability to walk. I’ve watched my nephew struggle with Type 1 diabetes. With all this in mind, I’m driven to take these adversities and use them as motivation to continue to learn and expand my knowledge in hopes of best supporting my family in successfully overcoming these challenges.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aum Training Center story. Tell us more about the business.
Aum Training Center is a top-rated personal training and performance center in Boston’s Back Bay.

We specialize in helping busy professionals experience life-changing breakthroughs in transforming their bodies and their health. Our mission is to design and deliver world-class personal training and holistic coaching programs that help people optimize the results they achieve.

After working for years in commercial health clubs/gyms, and seeing most people struggle to reach their goals, I saw a need to create a new type of fitness center . . . one that goes beyond personal training to provide lifestyle coaching, advanced testing, and a level of support and care people won’t find anywhere else.

By partnering with my wife, Sarika Arora M.D., we’re able to provide our members with access to unique resources and lab testing that uncover all the underlying things holding people back from looking and feeling their best.

We’re able to determine if they have food allergies, nutrient deficiencies, and/or hormonal imbalances that are interfering with their ability to reach their goals.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently because, honestly, I’ve learned valuable lessons from everything that has happened.
