Today we’d like to introduce you to Christa Jay Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christa Jay. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My career as a model/actress started when it peaked my interest when I was around age 14. I had always heard that I should look into modeling because of my red hair and bright blue eyes that catches everyone’s eye. I always had it in the back of my mind. I loved being in front of a camera since I was younger. I took a few acting classes and I loved them and continues to love being in front of a camera. After signing with a Boston, New York, and New Hampshire agency, I was sure that this was a path that I wanted to pursue. I love giving it all in auditions to fight for that one role, I am a very competitive person so I have such drive and passion in every audition I walk into. My competitive and perfectionist personality all started from gymnastics which I started at the age of 3. I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years. I hit a big bump in the road when I was 13 and fractured my back. This put a huge pause on gymnastics and I felt almost lost. This is where I started looking into modeling and acting. After my back fully healed, I went back into gymnastics but I had grown 6 inches and things were not the same and colleges stopped reaching out to me. When I was 17, I started track and field along with gymnastics and grew to love pole vaulting very quickly. I was a junior in high school when my interest grew greatly for pole vault. I had a natural talent and ended up earning a scholarship to pole vault in college. My athletics have helped me greatly in the modeling world. I have booked many jobs just from being able to do a back tuck or a back handspring. I have been doing more athletic modeling due to my height of 5’7″. I am just under the height to be a runway model at 5’8″. That doesn’t stop me from trying my best and putting myself out there at auditions. It motivates me even more when I hear a no from a client.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, I cannot complain. It has not been too rocky along the way. Of course, I hit some rough patches and it was not a super easy road but I just kept picking myself back up to follow my dream. Ever since I was little, I have been very determined. When I set my mind to something, I do not stop until I get it done. I am a bit of a perfectionist so when things do not go the way I plan, it motivates me even more to work harder.
New England Model Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I tend to specialize in athletic modeling due to my body type being toned, fit and small along with hair shows because of my eye catching red hair. I am very proud of my red hair and my athletic look because I stick out in a crowd. Some want to fit in but in this industry I love to stick out. On the acting side, I try to be versatile in the roles I play. I try to get myself out there in small films whenever I can to work on my acting skills.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
There are many different ways that people define success. I think of it as if I feel like I put my all into something, I am successful. For example, if I go to an audition and I do the best I can then no matter if I get the job or not, it is a success. Obviously I would be very excited to book the job but if I don’t, I don’t get down on myself. When it comes to my competitive athletics, I try not to worry about winning, I try to beat my own personal records and focus on myself and that seems to work very well for me.
