Meet Charles Kuizinas and Alison Joyce of Cosmic Moose Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Kuizinas and Alison Joyce.

Charles and Alison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an Acrylic painter living in New Hampshire close to Newfound Lake. I wanted to create a really cool Moose character that I could paint in fun, humorous scenarios with the other creatures of New Englands’ Forests, Mountains, Lakes and Rivers.

And this Moose will have really cool sunglasses that see through space and time. I will paint them all in these fun scenarios and I will call it, “Cosmic Moose Art”. So, I did. I paint fun, whimsical scenes with all of these magical creatures, inspired by all of the majestic beauty all around us.

Its one thing to be able to paint things that people like and relate to, but it’s another thing to be able to make a living off of it. I was lucky to fall in love with a wonderful girl, Alison, who is also a marketing genius. She has been the designer of Cosmic Moose Arts’ business strategies and really the business brains behind the operation. lol!

Together, we have been able to propel forward and launch Cosmic Moose Art into outer space with a complete line of gifts for EVERYONE. These Cosmic products include Prints, Woodblock prints, Greeting cards, Coffee mugs, Nightlights, magnets, glass ornaments and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an Artist, one of my challenges in my paintings is whether or not My Moose has human hands or hooves. Is he holding something? Or should he have fingers to show emotion? A lot of times its hooves. I love how useless they are in certain scenes like playing the guitar. But it still works.

Alison, being the bright business-minded woman that she is would say something intelligent like, “The challenges we face are developing retail locations and/or marketing strategies.” For me, it’s really about painting fun. For us its a future. Doing what we love…..

Cosmic Moose Art – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cosmic Moose Art can be found in 23 retail locations throughout New Hampshire. There are Original Acrylic paintings, Matted and signed prints, woodblock prints, greeting cards and magnets.

I also do privately commissioned work as well. We will try and do 6 or 8 shows in New Hampshire each year. Shows including The Deerfield Fair, and the NHMADE EXPO where Alison and I will be on hand to meet customers and laugh about the Art.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are many proud moments for us. One of them would definitely have to be when I was commissioned to paint a scene for one of the NH Fish and Game Officers from the T.V. show “North Woods Law”. It was to be a Christmas gift from his wife. I asked her if she could take a photo of him with it when he opened it.

I thought I’d get the pajamas and messy Christmas morning hair photo but it wasn’t. It was him in his full, perfectly pressed, uniform holding the painting of himself, as a Moose, in the same uniform! Sooo Cooool.
