Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanell Conway-Smith.
Chanell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved the beauty industry because of my grandmother Rosemary who was a cosmetologist. As a young child she would let me help her with her clients and I watched her pamper and prep herself. After I graduated from college and went through two layoffs working in the financial corporate industry for years I decided to take a chance on faith and went to aesthetics school. I originally went to aesthetics school because I was fascinated with lashes and knew I needed my license to attend the classes. After doing 300 hours at Catherine Hinds, I loved the field so much I stayed for the entire Masters Aesthetics’ 1200 hour program which I graduated from. At 300 hours I got licensed while still continuing the 1200 hour program and I took the lash course right away. I started doing my classmates lashes in school and then soon was able to take clients. I was given the privilege of working and studying under Julia Bowers, a well-known guru in the industry for Permanent Make up and Lash extensions and many other things. While working with Julia on Newbury st, I also worked at other spas and med spa’s perfecting my craft. I studied and worked with Julia for a few years as well as other places then got the courage to step out on my own and open up AlexisRose Lash & Beauty Suite. I’ve been in business for over 4 years and I’m very thankful to have the great clientele that I have.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, running a business is really hard work. Its takes a lot of long days and nights and gaining the trust of clients. I struggled with not being familiar with the Quincy area when I started and came from Newbury St. I knew I needed to get my name out there to bring in business. Once I was able to do this referrals became my best form of promotion.

AlexisRose Lash & Beauty Suite is an expert lash suite specializing in the art of lash extensions and other services such as make up, brows services, lash services and permanent make up (permanent make up services done in Braintree).
I am proud of being loyal to lashes and being able to remain consistent with giving great service continuously to clients.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly wouldn’t do anything differently other than started in this industry sooner than I did.
