Meet Carrie Burrill of Baked New England in Southern New Hampshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Burrill.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my blog in 2011, under the name Bakeaholic Mama. I was a mom of two boys under the age of 4, and pregnant with my daughter. I had a rough pregnancy and head home bound often. So I need a social and creative outlet, to help me stay sane.

Over the years it became quite popular, I gained 100’s of thousands of readers, and I used my skill of developing family friendly recipes and food photography for food brands based all over the US.

Today, I am slowly going through a rebrand and changing directions. My blog’s new name is Baked New England.

While I still develop recipes and take photos, my food is more New England based. My focus being on local and in season foods.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not. When I first started, food blogging was just becoming a profitable business, with in a couple years it blew up. Everyone was blogging and trying to make an income at it. So there was a ton of competition, and keeping up with the constant changes in algorithms and social media trends can be quite exhausting.

Please tell us about Baked New England.
I develop recipes using local in season ingredients. Stage and photograph them, then share them on social media and my blog. I don’t claim to be a professional chef, but rather a home baker who loves to share her passion for food and teach others along the way.

My specialty is donuts, in fact I can SO close to opening a shop in Manchester back in 2014-2015. But life happened and my donut shop dream is on hold.

My donut recipes and photos have become what I’m most known for, and I take a lot of pride in knowing people who love them when I make them for events, or drool over my photos, and then go home and make my recipe themselves and get great results.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I would have stayed true to keeping everything New England based. I am fortunate to live in an area with amazing ingredients right outside my door.

For a few years there, I was caught up in working with large national brands, and was not as focused on fresh and local ingredients.

I’m much happier today, with my focus being on New England foods and sharing my love for my home with my readers from all over the world.
